If the Dodgers could acquire one player at the deadline, who would you prefer?

  1. Machado

    43.5%
  2. Front line starter (degrom, thor, et al)

    56.5%

You have the truck 4 wheels. That’s not how these Dodgers roll.

Rosenthal already reported that the Dodgers are not looking at the waiver deadline to add to the bullpen. Anyone worth a damn is getting claimed very quickly and the pieces that are slipping through are very much the same as we already have. Didn't mention any other positions, but have to believe the backup catcher will be looked at. Devin Mesoraco would probably be the only one worth taking a flyer on.
This is just my own idea, but I wonder if a 3-5th starter type FA to be were to pass through waivers, if the club could look at them as an option to slot into the rotation and potentially put Wood in the pen as well since he at this point would be there anyway if the playoffs started today. Guys like Matt Harvey, Gio Gonzalez, Derek Holland, Marco Estrada and James Shields come to mind. If the offense is clicking, they can take a starter every fifth day that may give up 3-4 over 5-6 IP+ if it means another more dangerous arm out in the pen. Also with guys like Harvey and Estrada, you could catch lightning in a bottle.

I'd rather have Rod Barajas at this point than Austin barnes

Dennis Santana to start throwing off of a mound tomorrow. Running out of time, but this would probably put him on a 4-6 week timetable to face big leaguers in game action which is problematic with MiLB wrapping it up in about 2 weeks. May have to pitch in the playoffs for what whatever affiliates make it if he has any shot of coming back. Many project his as an elite arm out of the pen, so if he has not lost a tick or two from this, he could be a dig addition IF he can get healthy.

tbt i'd rather they not rush him back
realize the post is a crapshoot... but imo this dodger team is not a ws team
even if they somehow back into the post, they'll get bounced quickly... w/santana or w/o
    let the kid heal

    yes
    but those were different times
no wild cards, 2 divisions per league... boom, into the nlcs
team took the nl west lead in may and never looked back
and there is no hershiser or gibson on the 2018 team

    i agree
any team has a shot if they come in hot and we can still be that team
maybe even more than last year
both the SP and offense have capacity to go on a full blown tear
the BP isn't optimal but it could end up being serviceable enough
    stranger things have happened

would have to be a perfect storm
but like you said, stranger things have happened
and history does have a knack of repeating itself...
1981 team regarded as less talented as 77/78 team wins it all
the 88 team -- as bob costas called "quite possibly, the weakest lineup in ws history" beats the better mets and a's
and this team, nowhere near as good as the 2008, 2009, 2013, 2016 or 2017 teams...
    would be nice
i just don't see it... yet

every time is an other time Irish
1988 was not 1958 either, it is a moot point
and you dont think Utley is a Gibson type
types of people does not mean mirror images
they do it in different ways but Utley is a modern Kirk

in sports that is the most loser-type mentality that is
not talking about life in general, not talking about you of course man
    but just in sports
its the type of mentality that hates Kershaw and wants him gone from this team a
its the type of mentality that does not want one player from the present to overshadow a great from the past
that is so retarded and counter to logic
like kobe fans which I am one who don't want LeBron to win more than 2 titles with the Lakers so he does not outshine Kobe
they would rather have less wins and less titles than to have a non Laker lifer get some credit that may currently belong to Kobe
same goes with the peanut heads who don't want Kershaw anymore because he is no longer the most dominant thing on a mound but is simply a top 5 dominant pitcher
the same type of 50 cent heads who hate Puig and believe he has a 50 cent head
luckily this is sports not chess
in sports giving max effort is how you use your head and few players give max effort the way the Pig does

the teams that never win are the ones that think with this loser mentality
not sure where you as a fan picked this up
but it certainly is not what Dodger fans are about

Idk if such a guy exists but it would be great to do a Carlos ruiz like trade to trade for a backup catcher that only hits lefties. Barnes/Farmer won’t cut it and we need help vs. LHP.

I just want to see a decent winning streaks these last 30 or so games. Most will be against the NL West, so it’s really put up or shut up time. As you say, I just haven’t seen it in awhile.

The ‘88 team couldn’t hit worth beans, but somehow cranked out 94 wins. The best hitters via BA were John Shelby and Mickey Hatcher.

Obviously, the pitching and a legendary at bat saved our bacon.

This team is the opposite. On paper, we should have a hellava team, but our pitching is a mess. We just have to over power opponents, but we fall into a funk.

It’s pretty dicey this year. But who knows.

    A.J. Ellis

    113 WRC+
    .280 BA
    .384 OBP
He's on the positive side of WAR in 53 games played.

No power AT ALL though and I don't think he was liked by any teammates other than Clayton. Don't know what he does vs. LHP.

The '77 and '78 should have beaten the Yankees at least once. That was powerful lineup.

our pitching is just getting healthy and we deleted darvish from the rotation
we added machado and dozier and deleted logan and lost seager
i'm seeing a net positive and guys that could easily put it together when it counts
