Can't stack a lineup with one-dimensional, low average, streaky, platoon players. You end up in a situation where the floor is as low as the ceiling is high. Last year, with better health and luck, we saw the ceiling. This year we aee seeing the floor. If enough players are like Yaz, Joc, Dozier, etc., the team will take on that identity. Inconsistency and inability to perform when the sample size shrinks. If you need a big hit, it's not coming.

I would move on from our current stock of outfielders and take a different approach. The reason it worked in 2017 is because Chris Taylor was a 4 win player, Kike mashed lefties, and some other things went in our favor. Too much has to go right for this kind of an outfield to work.

Gotta let Verdugo play. VRP made a good point a while back that Verdugo's ceiling isn't as high (or the same) as guys the FO office seem to pull out of their asses. And I kind of agreed at first but now not so much. Just because someone has a similar net WAR at the end of the season does not make them equal. We need consistency, durability and reliability. I think Verdugo being a high contact guy will add another dimension to the lineup.

I agree. Mostly because even though I don’t thinks Verdugo is ever the best or second best hitter in the lineup, it’d be nice to see someone not strike out half the time.

Matt Harvey was claimed by the Brewers, but the teams could not come to terms on a deal. This weekend could be interesting, the Brewers need pitching badly and if shit turns from bad to worse for the Dodgers, they could consider putting Ryu up on waivers. I could see him potentially netting the club an interesting far away piece or two. I think his tenure with the club will be over after this season anyway, so it could be worth trying to recoup some assets for a farm that has taken some hits over the last couple of years.

One positive development for the future..Belli didn't need to be sent down to get himself in order. Great sign that he didn't have to follow in the footsteps of young guys that had to be sent down..Joc and Puig. And he's been hitting while playing a good amount of CF, one of things I questioned..if his routine/preparation and work load in CF were effecting his production at the plate.

.371/.444/.529 line in August. Stealing bases. 16 strikeouts in 20 games. The .442 BABIP is an unsustainable, but he's not K'ing a ton, so he's giving himself a chance and that's half the battle.

Belli has actually reminded me a lot of the Joc situation(without the being sent down part). There have been some noted similarities in the two's approaches when coming out of these prolonged slumps where weird contact oriented swings would take place at the severe cost of power. Then Joc started to unload and he has kept the K levels at a good number. Would love to see Belli start to unload on some balls early in the count down the stretch here.

predicting it could transport as many as 1400 fans a game lol
of course at a death speed of 150mph
how about a realistic transport from union station and a few trains that actually run after the game ends?
its a breeze to take the line from the valley in to DS if you are going to uber back
    how hard can that be?

Some situational lights coming on. Maybe Seager can follow suit with some contact oriented swings of his own when he returns? Seager can definitely give them a run for their money when it comes to big cuts

Having a drink when I overheard two bartenders talking mad shit about Yu Darvish. It was music to my ears. Definitely heard the words "pussy" and "soft" multiple times. They were tipped nicely.

Having pitched really well since July 1st, team results not withstanding, they could find themselves in an interesting spot with Kershaw this winter, he is sure to opt-out with a strong finish, and at that point the front office will be forced to decide: are we willing to extend him 4 or 5 years at $40M+/yr, essentially making the remaining current deal 6/230 or 7/270?

This FO won't sign him for that contract, which I think is the right thing to do. Sure that probably means he pitches lights out for some other team and win the WS (probably the Gnats knowing our luck), but he's showing some age.

But I have no idea what that means for this team going forward. This team needs so much help all over their pitching staff.

say whatever comes to mind about it but the truth is CK will be a Dodger one way or another and its the right thing to do
unless of course someone offers up those absurd numbers you speak of

Having no CK (and somehow no Jansen) would delight quite a few people here, I believe, and that's baseball. I just wonder who out there, available, is going to slide into those slots in fill in with the results we've seen with our previous "garbage"?
The suggestions I've read are ridiculous and would be poor baseball moves, imo.
Anyone we might have had are well gone, all on teams that just aren't going to let them go, and prepping for the post season runs.
We did amazingly well considering the amount of past piles of dung the FO gleefully paid for, but made the wrong choice when it counted the most, let's face it.
So, much of the 2017 magic is not there this year, for one reason or the other, and I'd love to read about the "replacement" names for Kershaw the haters have in mind...instead of another numbing screed on past failures and chokes...we all have done it, and all lived it, and all felt it.
We all live with it every single day.
Just as much as the next guy does.
    No shit.
So, I wait with baited breath to read the names of who we go after...

the 2017 magic is gone because analytics giveth and taketh away
aside from the pitching being pretty decent all things considered we have been figured out
no career years from CT, Belli,Kike etc and that literally started in the WS
the good teams know exactly what to do w our lineup and we sit here praying the magic returns lol

I felt that for Kershaw to opt out, he would have to go on the tear of tears and I am not sure that has happened yet. Excellent run? Oh abso-fucking-lutely, no doubt. The thing for me is, for him to be worth that $35M+ a year, he'd need to be giving me at least 7+IP and something close to 10 K's a start down the stretch. Obviously, guys are going to get better hacks the third time through an order with any pitcher, but a true $30M+ guy has to still keep teams off balance and the 3rd time through the order with him right now has me VERY uneasy, especially when those heavy hitters start to come up. You can see that batters are getting a bit more comfortable in the box and significantly better AB's are being taken against him as the game moves on. If he opts out and some team gives him $30m+, then tip of the cap to them, I just don't know if he will be that type of pitcher for very long. It'd be nice if he opts out and takes a relatively team friendly deal closer to that $20M mark, but zero chance that happens. Another thing working against him in the event the org were to consider re-signing him is the emergence of Walker Buehler as a front line starter, the return of Julio Urias who is starting to see his velocity climb back to where it was and multiple SP's that are close in system that look like potential front line SP's.
