Yeah... I wouldn't really complain about the FO and their ability to buy low on a prospect with an injury history. They have done a pretty good job of melding that into something valuable, our potential opening day starter being one.

LOL, this has like a zero percent chance unless the Yanks are willing to move more intriguing players other than Andujar. The NY media keeps hyping him up, but most teams say he is destined for DH. It would cost them Torres or Sanchez since the Rockies are in win now mode and the Yanks prospects are pretty fucking meh...

and i think most now realize that you're essentially paying for [example] 10 years to get 5
an easy sell to fans, much tougher to owners/boardmember/shareholders etc
collusion, owner(ship) prudence -- whatever you want to call it, it's there and it's intentional
a deliberate attempt to stop it in it's tracks
    but it's far too late...
someone will -- or, at least, should -- ultimately pay manny and especially harper what they deserve
in the end, it will become far too tempting to resist and owners will -- or again, should -- cave
i mean let's say philly offers bryce 5yrs/$190 -- are the yankees not going to offer something better?
and it will (again, should) escalate from there

Some dude I have never heard of named Dan Federico is reporting that word is coming down that the Dodgers are going to be punished for their actions towards signing Int'l free agents. The penalty is expected to be on par with what happened with the Braves a year ago which got their GM banished from baseball for life and 9 prospects released to free agency. When this info has been leaked in the past, the year in question was usually the 2015-16 signing class. Of that class, only a couple of prospects remain and most are at this point, stretches to be major league contributors. This was also done under a previous scouting department and very early on under the new FO. I with how risk averse this new FO has been, I have a hard time seeing them getting punished, but it could impact the club in the seasons ahead.

It is so incredibly unlikely that this is as big as the Braves deal since the Dodgers did some in-house cleaning afterwards, so that could be viewed as them finding a problem and addressing it promptly. Not to mention, this investigation has likely been going on for a while so I would suspect teams did their due diligence before hiring, especially the Giants who would have the most to lose from all of this. So that is indication that other clubs do not view it as serious.

Rosenthal: Hearing increasing chatter about #Dodgers’ interest in free-agent outfielder A.J. Pollock. No indication a deal is close, but he is a target for them. Offers ability to play CF and RH balance. Bellinger, Pederson, Toles, Verdugo all LH. Taylor and Hernandez RH, but also play IF. Wrote this in December: “Pollock has not played more than 113 games in a season since 2015, but #Dodgers – due to their depth and versatility – could withstand any absences more easily than most clubs.” Similar to the approach they take with Rich Hill.

    *sigh*

I really honestly don’t get it. I trust Rosenthal, but He sucked against everyone but us last year and will cost a pick and frankly I don’t think he is good enough anymore to warrant giving that up

It makes no sense unless it is a smokescreen for something else. He is not an impact player anymore, his AAV is probably going to be both close enough to Machado/Harper that unless there was a ton of other shit at play, it would still hamper their tax worries as the season progressed.

wait, you mean that wasn't a factor before?
    idiot
    • Grandal, on playing in Milwaukee: "For me, it’s a challenge to be in a ballpark where, when I’m behind the plate, I need to take into account what I’m calling and how I want to go through certain situations."

So that dude is doubling down and is saying that the club has been found to be in violation of the Int'l free agent rules and could be getting penalized similarly to the Braves from 2017. No idea what year this is in regards to, but if it is the 15-16 signing period, it would suck, but not be cataclysmic to the system. If it is '14 that would be REALLY fucking bad as that would be Ruiz and Dennis Santana.

Breaking: Los Angeles Dodgers to face international free agency violations
    Posted by Dan Federico

The future of the Los Angeles Dodgers may be going from a sunny California afternoon to the darkest of clouds over the City of Angels.

According to a source with direct knowledge of the situation, the Dodgers have violated international free agency rules and could be facing a similar punishment that was handed to the Atlanta Braves in November 2017. The Braves’ penalties included forfeiting 13 of their international prospects while former general manager John Coppolella was banned for baseball for life. In addition, the Braves were “prohibited from signing any international player for more than $10,000 during the 2019-20 signing period. Also, the team’s international signing bonus pool for the 2020-21 signing period will be reduced by 50 percent.”

This could be an extraordinary blow to a farm system that Bleacher Report ranks as the eighth best in MLB. It’s unknown how far back the investigation stems from but it’s notable that Keibert Ruiz, Dennis Santana, Yadier Alvarez, Diego Cartaya, Edwin Uceta, Cristian Santana, Starling Heredia, Robinson Ortiz and Omar Estevez – all featured on MLB Pipeline’s Top 30 Prospect List – were international free agent signees at one point.

Another subplot to watch could be Gabe Kapler‘s potential involvement: the current Philadelphia Phillies manager was the Dodgers’ Director of Player Development from 2014 until he accepted the managerial role on October 2017.

More on this story as it develops.

i don't like not going after harper but i (reluctantly) understand it
but i just don't understand the pollock fascination and never will
5yr/$80M (plus a draft pick) for an oft-injured 31 year old who hasn't played a full season since 2015?
sorry man, i just don't get it
    • Pollock is believed to be seeking a contract similar to the five-year, $80 million deal that Lorenzo Cain signed with the Milwaukee Brewers a year ago. The 31-year-old has dealt with a multitude of injuries throughout his career and has not played a full season since 2015. In 113 games in 2018, he slashed .257/.316/.484 with 21 home runs, 65 RBI and 13 stolen bases. Pollock rejected a qualifying offer from the Diamondbacks at the beginning of the winter, so the Dodgers would need to sacrifice a draft pick if they were to sign him.

Would they really make major league players free agents? Ruiz is on the 40 man and Santana too and has pitched in MLB. I think We exceeded or circumvented the limit in 14 meaning they should’ve been capped for 15-16 meaning those are the guys who could be declared FA’s. Who is the whistleblower here and why did it take 4 years to figure out?
Also of note, the Dodgers were in a FO transition from 2014-2015, there could have been mix ups

And this could actually make signing Pollock actually make sense, if we are losing them picks anyways, might as well get a RH bat
