We are local hacks just like the gentleman in question. We don't claim to have sources and we don't pay to have air time though. Not anymore. We operate a fantasy sports show so we don't give a damn about breaking news.

Each morning I wake up hoping to hear news that the Dodgers are finalizing a deal for Lindor and Clevinger. I’d love to see us make a move, but I have serious mixed feelings over the Mookie Betts rumors - for starters, why are we even in talks with a team that cheated us out of a fair chance at a WS title? Fuck the Sox. Like seriously, fuck em.

A few reasons, more than likely. 1) Betts was already damn good before Cora got there, had put an 8 WAR season together pre-Cora. 2) Bloom is a new exec there in Boston and he doesn't give a rat's ass about what Cora did to the Dodgers - he just wants to make a good deal and why not with a guy he's familiar with, in AF? 3) And this probably the most noteworthy - the business of baseball just keep rolling along in general. They just came down with the punishment for the Astros a couple weeks ago or whatever - we're already talking trades and trying to get better.

Of everyone rumored to be available, I want Betts the least. I can't wash that cheat stain off the inside of my boxer briefs. Plus the fact that he is going to be an absolute circus next off-season. He's going sleep with us, make us fall in love, force us to tell our wives about the affair and then ditch us when the sex gets boring.

Ultimately he will cheat us twice.

This team badly needs a shot in the arm with an impact player but I can't wrap my head around the idea of adding Betts. I would've much preferred Lindor. He rejected 10/300 from Boston and we expect our front office to beat that? Hell no. So it'd be a waste of prospects for a 1 year rental that is more focused on how much money he'll make in the offseason AND had his best season during the year his team cheated. Yuck.

Yeah, I didn't think he was super credible. Just more pointing out that his post last night seemingly set off the firestorm of tweets/reports this morning that the Dodgers and Red Sox are seemingly closer on a deal. Awesome to hear that we have a celebrity in the group! If you ever need a new co-host, I'm available, haha.

Who knows. Maybe the Dodgers will treat him like one of their own and pay him. Dodgers are more inclined to pay their own.

He's not gonna ditch us. He's gonna ditch Guggs and Kasten - who've basically already stated that they don't value superstar free agents as much as they value homegrown talent.

The one thing with this FO that always want to remind folks of is that they like to do these things in the shadows. The only deal of theirs that was really in the spotlight in their tenure was the Machado deal and that had more to do with the shitacular Orioles FO at the time wanting more for Machado. I am a bit wary right now of these rumors as in the last 24 hours they have turned from "The Padres are leading the charge" to " The Dodgers are getting closer to a deal!". This very well could be a ploy from the Red Sox FO to get more from the Padres. Another thing to remember is that Bloom is a former protege of our very own Andrew Friedman. I would not be shocked if he too prefers to keep things on the DL, so all this hubbub has me thinking there is something fishy going on. Honestly as this thing morning rolls on, I am starting to get the feeling that the Padres are likely going to do something wild to get this deal done.

With that said on my part, a Red Sox beat writer was on MLB Radio this morning. He said that only a couple of days ago, the feeling within the Red Sox camp was that there was no chance that Betts would be moved. All that has changed within the last 24 hours and that they see a deal MORE likely to happen, but still has hurdles. One thing that has changed is one of the teams has gotten more aggressive with their offer. He added that outside of each teams top 2 prospects, that the Sox seem to value the Dodgers hoard of pieces a good bit more. The Dodgers MLB ready prospects that they may be willing to trade (Verdugo, Beaty, Rios, Taylor, Hernandez) have shown good potential value and their lower prospects (Downs, Gray, Gonsolin) have higher floors, which helps a weak Sox farm.

Tacking onto those comments, the Padres and AJ are ALWAYS a wild card. If he cracks and add Patino to the offer, it's over and he is going to Boston, there is no doubt in my mind about that. So until I see him in Dodger Blue, my expectations are low for this thing to actually happen.

I trade Verdugo for Mookie 11/10 times right now. Mookie is the second best player in baseball it’s not even a question.

I'll be gotdamned. We were a Bryce Harper short of beating the Nats....sending a couple non-Lux/May specs to Boston for a better chance at winning a WS would be a waste?

And Verdugo has never even played well into August - ever in his career. Not in the majors, not in the minors. Only one noteworthy July

I'm the biggest lover of Verdugo on this board and if he is what it takes to get Mookie, than it is time to go. Kinda hope that it doesn't end up costing us him though as I would love to see what a healthy Verdugo could do and how awesome that OF would be.

Psh. Give me Betts/Belli in 2 OF spots and we can make due with Joc in the LF corner. All Joc does is produce in the fall

Oh man, did you miss the past 4 months of cheating scandal news?

If there is no question he's the second best player in baseball, then of course, Verdugo goes in a heartbeat. But man... I certainly don't have the gravitas to make a statement like that. Seeing as a deal appears more and more likely, I hope you're right... maybe we get Mookie "playing for a contract" Betts.

This team is on the 1 yard line. It's not time to be cute. It's time for Mamba Mentality. Make the damn Pau Gasol trade, so fans can have a parade.
