Glad to see Flaherty going back to Detroit. Even though he was bad in the WS for us, I really didn't want to see him sign with SD.

Good post, Bz. Ankle injuries can heal. Life, especially of a child, is far more important.

 

Last year Kike was diagnosed with the astigmatism in his eyesight and began wearing glasses in July. His batting average and OPS in August and September were .273/.790 and .308/.821. And of course, he delivered during the postseason, as he often does.

I'd like to see what his numbers would look like with a full season of wearing glasses. What are the chances Dodgers sign him and cut Taylor?

Looks like they traded him and covered part of his $4.5M salary for a player to be named later. I think usually PTBNL's are throw-ins and have little value*. Pretty good deal for the Cubs. Dodgers pen looks damn impressive on paper, but I hope the injury bug doesn't hit too hard and we end up regretting this. I still think Grove, despite the options thing, should've been the one to go.

It's a strange feeling this time.

Usually, at this point of the off-season, we're waiting for more signings. "We need a closer." "We need more bullpen depth." "We need one more lefty." "We need a corner outfielder." "A right-handed bat off the bench." "A veteran starting pitcher."

But this year, we need nothing. Sure, it'd be nice to get Kike re-signed, but frankly, we don't need him. Or CT may seem like an albatross, but the team doesn't need him in order to win games, so might as well let his contract play out and who knows, maybe his swing adjustments this winter will allow him to contribute again. Having to DFA Brasier was a testament to the the breadth of this roster. There's simply no room to add more talent. Maybe we'll see some activity when ST opens and we can put players on the IL, yet I wouldn't be disappointed if nothing further happens (well, not including Kike). I've just never experienced this sensation of having a set roster during the winter months.

Strange indeed.

 

just my opinion, but they should have completely overhauled his swing 2-3 years ago
