Yeah sure...a person who had to escape from the island and left their mom, dad, siblings or maybe even their children in Cuba to be slaughtered by a psycho dictator is going to turn on your news source to find out if it's valid to have their "perspective". These people have dealt with the reality, not with what it should be in these places with scum like Castro in total control for years. Big difference.
I'm sure your world view opine would make them feel so much better...
It's you who doesn't understand the context.
Too enamoured with the rhetoric and the way it makes you sound.
As if everyone doesn't know how it should be...
It's not like you have a scoop or breaking news there...

Blue...are you Cuban? Are you a family descendant of Fulgencio? I have no idea why you take so personally this issue. Is it virulent anti-communism? Hmmm...have you talked with any of the tens of thousands of families affected by the Shah of Iran....who had the backing of the US for decades....which only led to more decades of anti-American terrorism that caused thousands of Western deaths?

If this is a personal issue, yeah I can understand. If this is merely political or historical discourse.....you are just flat wrong or in denial.

My reasons are based in reality. And it doesn't matter if you think I'm in denial. Your opinion of me is unimportant. I'm not denying anything, only reflecting what I know to be the truth about what Cubans feel about Castro. Plain and simple. Just them. Not Iranians or Central Americans.
I hold no creedence in your opinion of me, as it is all a soapbox redux for what we all know is the way it should be, but isn't. Certainly not for Cubans. Why you bring up all these other oppressed peoples and groups, I have no idea in hell. I was talking about Cubans. Castro. That island. Not your world fix overview.
In fact, over time, with you specifically, if I differ with what you write, which is most of the time about most subjects, it has become like Polaris and my course is true. The content of your obvious statements are well known by all, already, like forever, and is really seperate and apart from Cubans I know who hate Castro and why.
But you'll spin it. Make it like I have no idea that shit goes on all over the world unless you tell me the real deal...
You can't see the forest for the trees.

One thing I agree with you, you really have no idea of shit that goes on in the world....or the shit that has gone on in the world. That's ultimately your problem....not mine.

Let Cubans....all of them, not just those in the US...speak for themselves.

I know lots of Cubans and the ones that hate Castro are the majority and virulent. But its not a monolith.
Castro filled Miami with then worst criminals in his prisons as payback on america.
He would send us killers and rapists to put political dissidents in jail instead.

The us supposedly tried to kill Castro many times. Our help to the anti Castro dissidents was kind of a sham.
Look what we sent in the bay of pigs?
I believe that in the years of oswald of mlk and all the assassinations of the time that our CIA couldn't take out Castro is a sham.
Having the enemy communists next door was good for scaring the she at home.
Its like the catholic empire never taking out martin Luther while he lived with an ex nun and had a large well known farmstead filled with Lutherans in Germany.
And the catholic empire was based in Germany at the time and Luther was public enemy 1. But not really.
But the new Protestant enemy was to good a target to destroy. Heretics are good for business.

    Lol.
Lucky we have you to tell us all about it, then...straighten us all out about the world, past, present, future. Y'know, stuff that you think only you are aware of.
    Lol.
I was never talking about all Cubans, just the many I know or knew where I grew up. People I spent literally years of my life with and amongst.
But reading is not part of responses with you, never was.

This thread has gone south quickly. Can someone explain what people are actually arguing about in this thread?

It seems that people are arguing assumptions. Are people assuming that ending the Cuban embargo and reestablishing diplomatic relations with Cuba is pro-Fidel? As far as I can tell no one in the US is actually "pro-Fidel", except maybe Jimmy Carter.

Nah, just people getting butthurt by proxy.
Moral outrage and righteous indignation can get very selective when its based on political partisanship.

    Bernie Sanders. Jill Stein.
The left has a (not so) secret love of Communists that no amount of suffering, failure and democide will assuage.

The right of fascists of course.
The Saudis are way worse than Fidel and that state/family/gang are an american proxy.
And while Fidel has jailed, killed, and tortured people in Cuba so have we unironically in Guantanamo.
People really think Fidel and the US are enemies, lol. We leased land from him to do our dirty work.
You think the CIA would kill Fidel or topple the Castro regime and risk a popular uprising that puts control of our terrorist camp at risk?
Someone is being played thats for sure.

Is it possible to support Socialist ideals within a Communist government without supporting dictatorship? Or are you suggesting they also support controlling dictatorship because the few "good" people need to tell all the "bad" people what to do?

You mean other than the dictatorship of the proletariat? :D

This is the fallacy of all statists, but it's especially insidious with socialists/communists, because their ideologies require near 100% participation. Anyone who doesn't agree with the program isn't free to opt out...they're free to be eliminated or "reeducated".

It's the malignant narcissism of would be leaders that they know whats best for the rest of us. You can't leave people alone to make their own decisions, you have to force the group into dealing with it in your way.

But to answer your question directly: yes, I believe they support controlling dictatorships because they think they have all the answers, and they envy the unfettered use of government force to implement their objectives. Go read the green party platform sometime as an example. Their answer to everything is to use government force to achieve their objective.

The US government (not just the right) puts up with / props up the Saudis because we like their oil. If they were some poor African country, nobody (including the left or the right) would give a shit about them.

Re: guantanamo. That lease is left over from the Spanish-American war. The Castro administration has been protesting the US use of that facility since 1959, so maybe your context is confused there? :D

Well, of course the proletariat could use a guiding hand. I thought we were talking about people that matter.

    I kid of course.

Wouldn't the near 100% participation rule apply to government in general? I can't opt out of following general laws. And I'm playing a bit of devil's advocate here because I do not support the Green Party nor do I support all of Bernie Sander's policies, but I fail to see where they say they want to achieve their goals through dictatorship or tyrannic rule.

It just seems like the assumption is if you aren't spitting on Fidel Castro's grave then you are showing support for him. It's some kind of twisted Political Correctness that suggests people are now terrible for NOT saying something a certain way. 'Merical Correctness.
