Sure it's only spring training, but he's done an absolute fuckload more during it than Crawford who will probably never play a game for us in his life. Send him to the minors, not Puig. Our other options? Hairston, Hererra or Skip? Boooooooooooring.

A split-second earlier, Yasiel Puig pulverized a pitch — hitting a line drive homer to right-center field that even Los Angeles Dodgers manager Don Mattingly was amazed at. "Pretty legit," he called it. Puig — the Cuban defector, who signed a seven-year, $42 million deal with the Dodgers last July — was 3-for-3 on Friday night, the home run included. A ballplayer could hear far worse comparisons than one of most-celebrated athletic talents ever. Dodgers star Matt Kemp made the same comparison once already. Puig, 22, is a beast. He's 6-foot-3, 215 pounds with bulging biceps. He's the younger, bigger version of Yoenis Cespedes, the Cuban outfielder signed by the Oakland Athletics before the 2012 season. Cespedes hit .292/.356/.505 for the A's last season, with 23 home runs and 82 RBIs. As of right now, though, Puig is still likely to be a minor-leaguer when the season starts, despite the big comparisons and big drool-stains from Dodgers faithful. The Dodgers outfield is loaded with talent, from Kemp and Andre Ethier to the currently hobbled Carl Crawford. While Crawford may not be ready for opening day, Mattingly told Dylan Hernandez of The L.A. Times earlier this week that Puig isn't in line to take his place: "Not really, in my mind. If we're going to be realistic about it, it's probably not best for him." Puig even seems to be impressing himself. When a reporter asked him Friday night if he was surprised by his spring performance, it was a question that didn't need a Spanish interpreter. His eyes got wide. He smiled. "Yeah!" "Wherever he goes, he can do nothing about that," Puig's interpreter said a few minutes later. "He's going to play hard where ever he goes." If he goes to Albuquerque or Chattanooga and keeps hitting homers like he did Friday night, it may not be long before "We Want Puig" signs starting popping up at Dodgers Stadium. __
the kid is hot... I'm not wishing for anyone off of the roster cut but... This is how legends start. They show up and immediately start kicking everyone's ass in all forms of the game and then they let baseball 'minds' sort it out. So the kid's been picked off already. Not worried. So he'll misplay a ball in the field? So? He'll throw out runners at more than home plate. That kind of arm stifles the 'little ball' extra base shit like Crawford simply can't. And don't get me wrong, we keep Crawford playing when he's healthy enough. Because it's all about getting on base and Crawford brings a ++ bat to the plate himself. Maybe waste the Hairston/Cruz backup? We'll see. Lot of positions are fluid. No one has a clue where the entire pitching staff resides. Many moves are coming. The ball is in DBB hands. He knows it and has played it the only way he can so far... until the first roster cut. Which, fortunately for us slobbering fans, is coming around the corner in just a little while. I say until Puig's hitting drops below .300, someone else should get shifted. If he hits prime time baseballs like spring baseballs then the Dodgers will have spent the $42M wisely and we will have a monster on our hands. . And that alone is enough reason to keep him in Chavez Ravine on opening day.
I understand both sides. Yes, he needs to play everyday. Yes, we need him to not get shelled and lose it. However, given Andre's issues with lefties, Crawford's need for a day off, and Kemp's need for a muzzle, the kid could probably play 3/5 days. Hairston still has backup 3rd. He can also back up at 2nd and 1st/SS in a pinch. Uribe is the super utility. Punto seems the odd-man out (who the fuck thought that would ever happen).
yeah that's about it... Punto playing the over under with Uribe Uribe is more versatile Punto has a brighter future toss a coin... losing either makes way more sense than sending off the .500 hitter
Uribe is under contract and will be paid and we may not want to start the service clock on Puig to soon. I am not suggesting anything but Puig is a physical specimen and because of his limited minor league time has he ever been tested?
yeah I think Puig is a horse and at 21 he's doesn't even know what tired is yet... he's living the dream and I see no reason to wake him
He will force their hand crushing AA pitching. He will be called up by June. I just wonder what he would do in ABQ. It would be videogame-like stats...
I doubt he ever sees ABQ for just that reason. It could screw up his swing as he starts trying to elevate to crush and hit four homers a game. It has happened before.
