Giving Roberts that extension was a big mistake in my opinion. It completely sent the wrong message. "You guys are the strongest team led by the best manager." Nobody's hungry anymore, especially the manager. What risk was there letting them play out his previous contract? That he would leave when it expired??? Hell no he wouldn't have, and frankly, if he had he would've been easily replaced. Terrible overplay by the FO and I think they'll come to regret it.
Just one in quite a few overplayed contracts imo. When you think about it, with the on paper roster they have, a neccessary bp game tonight is absurd. And having to nightly play Conforto, Muncy and zero producing others, is equally absurd. Truthfully, I'd rather see CT at 3b than Max right now. Defensively, he's just as good and offensively, they are equally a huge question mark.
his whole body language has changed to mr. cool laid back LA manager bothered by nothing he's going to be here though, likely longer than tom Bradley
Dreyer has been great probably way over his head but looks like the real deal 3 straight walks you might want to yank the rookie...
If you get the largest manager contract when your team plays like world champions, shouldn't you have to give it back when they play like an uninspired, mismanaged little league team?
Charlie Finley was a first-rate prick... but he wasn't wrong when he wanted to mandate one-year contracts. Ohtani could make 50mil this year based on last year; but if he sucks this year? League minimum next year. So be it.
roberts on snell… “He had an MRI Friday morning and there are no new findings. So at some point, I think he will get an injection to kind of calm it down and they will figure out when we pick up the throwing program. But given the findings of the MRI, we dodged a bullet.” textbook example of talking a lot yet saying nothing feckin tool
reading about the game this morning found some real gems w diarrhea mouth davey “I just felt that the offense did enough to win the game at that point in time, and to not pitch well, it's frustrating,” Roberts said. “I just feel that we're better than we've pitched.” “There were some pitches that swung counts, and certainly that Luis García at-bat to Suárez, that changed that inning, the scoreboard,” Roberts said. “It gets emotional, always. And so obviously, it's nothing personal. You can't argue balls and strikes.” seriously how does the team even sit through one of his "pep" talks? at least Prior got thrown out instead of apologizing for being upset
Prior has this appendage that Scarecrow hasn't had since he stole a base in 2004 ... You know what I mean.
Dave Roberts on struggling veteran Michael Conforto: “I think the last handful of days has swung the bat better and just really not getting a whole lot of results with that. He’s in a good spot. I’m sure he’s frustrated. … But I applaud his work and his consistent effort. He’s not running from it and that’s something that isn’t always easy when you’re struggling.” in a good spot??? wtf is he watching?!!! idiot
I just will never understand how Roberts' mind works. Some players simply see certain pitchers well. Conforto had 3 hits including a HR in 5 ABs against Yarbrough. Not a huge sample size but enough success that would make me want to see if there's more. But not Davey. He sees a LHP, circuits churn, his light bulb illuminates dimly and he says robotically, "Lefty platoon." Not that I'm happy to make a case for Conforto, but he HAS been making better contact and based on his previous at bats against this pitcher, he should've started. Meanwhile, Rojas is 1-10 lifetime against Yarbrough. .100 avg, .200 OPS. Naturally Davey starts him. Over the guy who put up a month's worth of Rojas production in one game yesterday. Does Roberts even look at the hitter-vs-pitcher tables? Would Kim and Conforto have made a difference in this one? Maybe, maybe not. But I've said this before. It all starts with the manager. When he looks like he's mailing in the game, the players follow suit. Anyhow, this thread was about to slip to page two. Couldn't let that happen.
was driving back down for santa barbara and listening on the radio guys were saying how dead the team looked and disinterested in bringing the energy of the first two games absolutely a reflection of a lesser leader and yet the highest paid manager in the game
here's some based davey after yesterdays loss what a buffoon “You have to kind of pick matchups, and who's throwing the baseball well, and who you believe in, who can kind of manage that situation,” Roberts said. “There's not one particular closer right now. I think I've shown that, using different guys in leverage and finishing games and things like that.”
