my earliest feelings and emotions to music held onto every note of that song
among the greatest ever written it exploded with the changes in culture at the time
I was six and listening to everything my sister was slapping on the turntable and eight track in her mustang

    pretty similar for me
i remember sitting in my mom’s car while she went into the store, and all of a sudden this dj saying something to the effect of “a new release from a local band, the doors”
that song has mesmerized me from that point forward, and the doors immediately became one of my all time favorites
i knew the band had made it a short while later when mattel came out (no homo) with their “light my firebird” hot wheels car
years later when i was going to ucla i listened to them a lot on the way to/from school, and of course i still listen to them often
i have a lot of favorite doors songs but light my fire seems to have it all

    Regarding The Doors ...

I've watched this recording of the July 5, 1968 concert at Hollywood Bowl numerous times. I have no memory of it, but I was just turned three when my mom took my Aunt Cecilia and I on an LA sightseeing tour. Ceci was visiting from the Bronx. According to my mom, we drove to the Bowling because my aunt loved Hendrix, who'd played there the previous year. For Ceci, it was like a pilgrimage.

Anyway, it's just before lunch on that day & my mom talks us past the security guys because she'd sung there often. Church choirs often sang there. So yeah ... its 1968 ... why not let two 30 yr old women & a 3 yr old boy walk through the box seats of the Hollywood Fucking Bowl while Morrison - about 50 ft away - and the band are soundchecking for that night's concert.

Ceci almost passed out. Mom dgaf since she crashed operatically trained - she wouldn't know rock from jazz. Me? Clueless. Jim? Probably high.

But it happened - or both Mom & my aunt Ceci have been lying for almost 60 years. Either way.....

I AM THE LIZARD KING!!!! I CAN DO ANYTHING!!!!!

This spicy little Latina is entertaining on several levels . . Stewart Copeland is one of my favorite drummers but this gal nearly duped his chops on this tune ...

I know @LAdiablo prefers more unknown Bowie tunes, but this article makes a few good points about the man's vocal skill ...

    https://americansongwriter.com/4-isolated-vocal-tracks-that-prove-david-bowie-wasnt-a-weird-singer/

Re: Starman (arguably my fave Bowie sing) "When you listen to it without the accompanying instrumentation or effects, his voice really does sound beautiful."

Re: Golden Years - "It’s wild to think that this tune was originally put together for Elvis, too." ... that floored me. Imagine Elvis singing this at The Westgate Hotel in LV.

I just think the lesser known music doesn't get enough love but still love the popular stuff as well
always thought it was crazy he didn't think his voice was very good and perhaps technically maybe it wasn't
but personality wise his voice was top notch
the young Americans/station to station era will always be my favorite w his coked out cigarette voice and character
golden years fits into that era and had heard the Elvis story before
can easily see him singing that song

    agreed
and midge ure is very underrated/under-appreciated
geldof gets all the credit for band aid/do they know it’s christmas, but ure essentially ran the production and created the masterpiece

probably know more than I should about Zep/Steely dan tribute bands but the Asian lead guitarist Sakurai used to play in a different Zep band in LA called Led Zepagain. I saw them w him and he's really good but imo tries to hard to mimic all the Page moves/clothes/look and it gets a little weird. great guitarist though. think he changed his name to Jimmy and dedicated his life to him or some shit. I've seen them in really small clubs and they do these meet and greet things to sell shirts. last time I saw them we took out some friends from Ireland and the new guitarist is Thymiakos or something. a Greek dude and he was ferocious. lead singer Swan can be a bit much lol.

Heard good things about Zepagain. Never seen them.

The other night they did the Physical Graffiti album in its entirety. Saved the really old stuff for the encores.

Never into this band but my late niece really dug them. Out of respect for her. This is their first new material since 1999 ...

fascinating how psychedelic the early Cure could be
never saw this particular live version from 84 but man how i would have loved being in that audience
certain amount of aggression in that sound but remember this song being one of the first of theirs to hypnotize me
like wtf is this and why are my eyes rolling back in my head

appreciate how eclectic Beck has been in his career but this song always hit deep
"i don't know if i'm sane but there's a ghost in my heart that's trying to see in the dark"
16 years old or so but if i come across it i have to listen 20 times its so gorgeous
references the suicide volcano of Japan..."i don't want to fall in though, just want to warm my bones on the fire awhile"

there wasn't a lyric video so here
I've been walking on these streets so long
    I don't know
    Where they're gonna lead anymore

But I think I must have seen a ghost
    I don't know
If it's my illusions that keep me alive

    I don't know what I see
    Was it all an illusion?
    Or a mirage gone bad?
    Oh I'm tired of evil
And all the things that I don't know

And I've been drifting on this wave so long
    I don't know
If it's already crashed on the shore
And I've been riding on this train so long
    I can't tell
If it's you or me who is driving us into the ground

    I don't know if I'm sane
But there's a ghost in my heart
That's trying to see in the dark, oh
    I'm tired of people
Who only want to be pleased
But I still want to please you
    See Beck Live

    Beck

    Loser
    Beck

And I heard of that Japanese girl
    Who jumped into the volcano
Was she trying to make it back
Back into the womb of the world?

I've been drinking all these tears so long
    All I've got left
Is the taste of salt in my mouth

    I don't know where I've been
But I know where I'm going
    To that volcano, oh
I don't want to fall in though
Just want to warm my bones on that fire a while
