If healthy, McCarthy and Kazmir are in the rotation, it's as simple as that. I know a lot of folks aren't happy about it, but the team is not releasing, nor trading either of them at this point without seeing what they have left in the tank. Right now neither has much trade value and are both owed a good bit of money. Both players also flashed signs last year that they can still be the players they were signed to be. The club is not going to forfeit 23 million and/or 35 million without getting those guys on the field and likely would prefer to see them healthy as they have higher ceilings than that of a Maeda.
Honestly, it is really worth seeing what McCarthy has. He mentioned that the yips/injuries had him contemplating retirement. Say he comes out and shits the bed or gets hurt, he could potentially retire for injury reasons and that knocks off his contract from the luxury tax. The team still has to pay him, but that's a high AAV that is gone.

So you're saying IF everyone is healthy, the starting rotation is pretty much set at Kershaw, Hill, Maeda, Kazmir, McCarthy?

here's the deal with the depth/logjam
every spring training, teams discover they have sudden needs/holes they need to fill
invariably and inevitably, someone they counted on gets injured or underwhelms
that's when they'll come knocking on our door, and our extra guys will suddenly have much more value
and (worse case scenario) if we get hit by the injury bug, we'll be better equipped than most teams to handle it

Yes, if that damn near impossible occurrence takes place, I see that being our rotation. Urias goes to Ext ST, Wood to the Pen, Nuno, Stripling, De Jong & Stewart to OKC and Ryu is 60 Day'd

I've never seen a team with this much depth at every position. Short of Seager getting hurt, I don't know if there is a player who's loss would be devastating to the team... and even then, if Seager gets hurt the team could potentially slide Forsythe to SS, put Utley in at 2B, and get by just fine for a few months.

What if Kazmir's struggles last year were due to injury and he is back to his 2015 self? What if pre-yip McCarthy is back? It makes sense for the club to see what is left of these guys instead of potentially losing them for nothing and then watching them regain their old form for someone else. If it doesn't work, then the club has reinforcements in waiting and they can address McCarthy/Kazmir when the time arises, otherwise it does not make much business sense to drop those guys now when there are others with options or skillsets that work in different scenarios.

We aren't having 3 lefties and Liberatore not be one of them. Get Avilan and especially Nuno off there. Replace with Liberatore and McCarthy. Hopefully Kazmir is dealt. I'd probably swap out Kike for SVS until Kike shows better than last year

And projections have us doing better if our starting 1B is replaced with his backup. These conversations are going to be great to look back on in 5 weeks when we are screaming that the team needs an ace behind Kershaw, a #5 starter and wondering how 13 players can come down with the same skin eating bacteria that cost them their season.

Meh not really. Like Kershaw, Hill, and Maeda are locks. Figure we have one of McCarthy or Kazmir in it until they want to put Julio in. If Alex Wood comes and strikes out 25.9% of his batters or whatever he was doing last year in spring, he's gonna be in the rotation.

Farhan has already come out and said that Wood is expected to start out of the bullpen, Urias is likely to go to ext ST with both McCarthy and Kazmir in the rotation. If someone gets hurt, sure it will change, but they are not throwing away basically 58 mil at this point.

For those wondering about the bullpen, consider this going forward. Options remaining:
    Avilan-0
    Baez-2
    Dayton-1
    Fields-1
    Hatcher-0
    Liberatore-2
    Nuno-1
    Ravin-1
    Rhame-3
    Wood-3
With Brandon Morrow on an MiLB deal
Being that this FO looks at the season as a marathon rather than a sprint, they will likely take guys out of options that show they can contribute over the potentially better player with options. Avilan is good, and showed as much last season when he was recalled, I don't see them moving him. Hatcher is obviously going to have to show that he is 2014 and 2nd half 2015 Hatcher and not 1st half 15 and all 16 Hatcher. He blows and I could see his 40 man spot going to Morrow.

I guess while we are at it, options left for other bubble guys:
    Ruf-0
    SVS-1
Puig- MAYBE 1, but likely 0
    Hernandez- 1
    Thompson- 1
    Toles- 3
    Taylor- 1
    No clue on Eibner

According to the True Blue LA link provided by @Dodgers99 , Eibner has 2 options remaining.

Damn, I totally missed that link he put out and then was working on something older from TrueBlue. I also somehow missed Segedin. Thanks!

Good info here along with the pitchers. Thanks for this.

I'd imagine Ruf being DFA'd at some point in 2017. SVS and Kiké having options is nice they'll be back and forth. Puig will make the team, Trayce to the 60 day DL. Toles should make the team and Taylor to AAA to start I'd bet.

Avilan and Hatcher having no options mean both probably start on the Opening Day roster and then see how they pitch. Both may eventually get DFA'd but I'd give both a shot, why not. Them along with Dayton, Kenley and Baez, Wood. Assuming Kazmir and McCarthy are the 4 and 5 starters or on the DL, and Urias is in AAA, that leaves what one spot? For either Fields or Liberatore IMO.

Damn gonna be really boring spring training.
