After I was done i dropped a frozen chimichanga on a cast iron skillet on medium low and topped it with some chicken/tomato sauce left over from the arroz con pollo we had earlier, and then some grated pecorino romano on top.
Came back 10 minutes later to something a lot better than a frozen chimichanga.

So I just found out today that I'm going to be traveling to the Philippines for work for about 2 weeks towards the end of May/early June.

Embarrassing to admit but I've never been out of the country before, so I'm a bit nervous. Anyone have any experience traveling to the Philippines and have any insight? Apparently I'll be in Davao City in the southern Philippines.

I thought I made a post or something about getting married last year.
I got married during Easter Sunday. I gave everyone less than 3 weeks notice.
It was a shotgun wedding but not because anyone was pregnant. But because a combination of weird circumstances.
But mostly took advantage of the fact her parents had been here visiting and needed to get back to south america.
They were not going to be able to come back here for a few years. Not only would it be hard financially but visa wise. They have another daughter who just got married, and she too lives in another country so the parents have to spend a lot of cash and use their visa.
The most important thing for my wife was that as much of her family was present and specially her parents.
Her brother and his wife/kids had been living here for a few years. Her mom and little sister were to arrive soon and the dad and other sister would be leaving in a few weeks.
So I surprised my wife with a fast wedding with all her brothers/sisters and both her parents. The one week they would all be together was Easter which was like 3 weeks away. There is a church here at the foot of the mountain. Did not get my suit ready till the night before the wedding. Mom and some aunts made arroz con pollo and i ordered a dozen pizzas, cream pies, and ice cream for the 'kids' table.
I was still popping the pain pills because my hernia had recently been operated and was pretty high the whole time.
It was ghetto as fuck in a lot of ways which is how it had to be.
My cousins drinking in the back of the church parking lot and my nephews vaping weed in their car.

I'm going to assume you know enough about what's going on in the Philippines politically right now to appreciate this, and I can't believe I'm going to give this advice because it goes against everything I stand for, but stay away from drugs.

Just keep to yourself and don't try to be one of these 'hero' tourists who likes to have the whole "cultural" experience. Stick to the tourist routes and resorts when not working.

Somebody might have more insight than me, and I've never been there. But their new President is loose as fuck.

i have never been there but i am involved w a filipina atm so i will ask her and get back
not sure if we ever talked about it before but back in the lair days the church was iglesia de christo which is huge over there and mostly all filipino
the priest and head guys used to always try to convert me and we talked about going there etc.
they would tell me that you could have the time of your life and would be treated like a god in a lot of places
also said to stick to the main road, don't go out at night, and if you end up in the wrong place you would be sliced to pieces...not kidding
not exaggerating in the least about that my friend
the put the literal fear of god in me in regards to staying safe in their country

What do you do about smog checks? I ask because I have a car and the light has been on for over a year. Car runs fine and I barely drive it, so I don't feel like fixing it.

    @DodgerLove
    update lol
i talk to my filipina friend and she says its the safest place in the country since the president lives there
beautiful beaches and girls and its a tourist area
her advice was not to talk to strangers lol thats going to be pretty much everyone
what she meant is if you are approached on the street just smile and wave them off w a no and keep moving
no need to wear expensive jewelry and of course ending up drink or acting like a dick is always a poor choice
she did say if you are staying in a hotel make sure its a nice one
there is all sorts of food from local to american
the way she described it is like a lot of 3rd world in that you are perceived as being the rich one just because you are there
i go everywhere in those type of settings but if i am not w locals i try to make a friend in the hotel i'm staying
you might find a guy who is a waiter or something that moonlights w his car on his off days that will show you around for a fee
just try and keep an eye on people that are staring at you from across the street type of stuff
thieves tend to work in groups of 2 or 3 if they are going to bump and grab w a handoff in a crowd
this is where we start to learn how good our instincts are and it sounds like you are going to have a blast
good luck and look forward to some great stories

I'm sure the car will pass a smog check just fine, but if your car's check engine light is on that's supposed to be an automatic fail.

It sure is in NJ...even if a repair shop can't figure out why it's on. A different gas cap could help, as Darth wrote. Or oxygen sensor adjustment.
If you and your mechaznic are this tight, then go to him just before you go to inspection, and he can clear it on the board display for a day or two. It is was it is.
Happened to me...eventually, I was forced to use nefarious methods to get a good sticker.
Then a month later, totalled the car.

Been down this path. I've twisted more than a few wrenches (owned an old MG) and my oldest buddy has been a factory Toyota/ Nissan/ Ford mechanic for 30+ years
All CA DMV licensed Smog Check shops are supposed to refuse to test/issue a certification if the idiot light is on.

MFR's know this and trigger that damned light for all manner of semi stupid shit like your gas cap is loose. Your cabin air filter wants replaced.
The light scares girls, and dealers / smog guys know that too and trot out all sorts of predatory practices. Remain vigilent, and dubious, of what they tell you.
But if you're not a mechanic it's tougher.

Best efforts include learning the code of what set off the light and see if you can do something yourself BEFORE dealing with the smog guys. Case in point I dragged my F250 in with the light on and coerced the tech to tell me the error code. Then I blind called the dealer and asked about the code. I was told a hose needed replaced and a service down and they could do it for $180 that day. I hung up and called back to the parts dept to verify the part was in stock. I drove to the same dealer, purchased the hose for $16 and replaced it myself in less than 20 minutes from hood up to hood down.

Then I passed smog with flying colors.

So try to learn the 'code' which is triggering the idiot light.
Then we'll take the next diagnostic step.
What make, model, year, etc of vehicle are we discussing?
