Maybe Joc as a leadoff is a good thing. But when Chase plays Joc can go back to hitting 8th. Leadoff and 8th until he learns how to hit better. Let him try to get on base early and then swing for the fences later.
Different pitches he's gonna see in that spot, better pitches. But the spot will handicap his overall growth, so maybe they put him back to 5th/6th when Utley's back Joc can be the leadoff guy when Utley sits sort of like Trayce is the 3 hitter when Turner sits. Could buy Utley some more time so he doesn't nosedive when Adrian, Howie and others start to get going.
It may help him. He is good at taking and playing to his OBP strengths early in the game might help him start off on a good note. Help him work the count more and try to get better pitches to hit. Lets him see more pitches, get on base and try to do something to contribute that way will also help get his mojo going. Then when he comes to bat later on he can try to do more offensively. And it gives him more at bats which i know you are a fan of when it comes to our young stars. Joc, Puig, Seager, Tray would be a great front four if Joc works out at leadoff and Puig comes back with his bat working right. Or switch Puig with Seager. Either way if Puig comes back to hitting line drives the way he used to then thats as dynamic a young core of hitters together as there is in the league. With the veterans hitting behind them Turner, Agon, Utley and whatever they have playing C. I dont have a lot of hope for Grandal like i did in Turner or i do in Puig. Even if we cant get Villar or Braun... Lucroy would be such an upgrade for the lineup.
