    @BlakeHHarris
The Dodgers DFA'd Freddie Freeman's best friend who had an OPS of .700. They DFA'd a franchise legend in Chris Taylor. The next DFA should be an absolute no brainer.... but for some reason it isn't

What's the worst that can happen if we give this guy a chance? He can't hit?

    Nothing changes then

still above the Mike Davis bar by 10rbi and 5 HRs
and he has played decent D at times
not much fun to watch though
the fact he came from the gnats makes it worse

Conforto drives in a run every 14.2 plate appearances. I want to emphasize that.. an RBI every 14.2 times he's at the plate. Mind you, he's typically in a pretty good spot in the lineup for producing runs (like sixth yesterday). Rojas and Kim, who are usually batting 8th or 9th, get an RBI every 12.7 and 9.7 plate appearances, respectively. Edman is having an off-year yet still scores a runner one every 7.6 PAs. Even Kike is at 8.5. Oh, and Rushing, whose yet to find his groove, drives one in every 6.8 PAs.

In the year that Joey Gallo was left off the Dodgers playoff roster, he pushed across a run every 6 times he was at the plate.

Conforto SHOULD NOT BE ON THE ROSTER, let alone starting games, let alone hitting near the heart of the order. It's maddening to me that Roberts and the FO don't see this.

they see it and know exactly what they're doing
in the same way they try to placate every social justice cause they're placating their black superstar that is bored in right field and wants a challenge
they were so committed they made an unnecessary acquisition to cement him at ss and intentionally ignore the resurgence of Miggy in the twilight of his career
i know Rojas is unhappy about it too because i've seen him in post game interviews and he doesn't hide his emotions very well
they can say its for the team and try and bs everyone that meeting was just "about his swing" the other day but we all see the truth
and while i marveled at Mookie taking balls all over the diamond everyday before games it turns out he had an agenda after all
i wonder if he still takes balls all over the diamond now that he has what he wanted?
that would be a very telling question to have answered

Some Conforto from this morning's Athletic...............

The spot found Michael Conforto again in the second inning Thursday. The mere fact that a day off for Shohei Ohtani and Teoscar Hernández meant Conforto was hitting cleanup was a statement of just where the Dodgers’ lineup is at. The result, a strikeout with the bases loaded, was the continuation of a $17 million gamble that has gone bust.

He finished the day hitless with a sacrifice fly. Through Thursday, only two hitters with at least 350 plate appearances have produced a worse OPS than Conforto’s .611. Among that group, Conforto and Nick Castellanos are tied with a league-worst 0.8 WAR, according to FanGraphs.

“I’ve obviously given Mike a lot of leash,” Roberts said. He sat down Conforto for a series of conversations this past week, urging the one-time All-Star to dial back his urge to make up for lost numbers. It resulted in a strong weekend against the Padres, but he remains in a hole.

Dodgers manager Dave Roberts says he sees left field largely as a platoon between Michael Conforto, pictured above, and Alex Call. (William Liang / Imagn Images)
The Dodgers simply need better production in left field. Entering Thursday, only the Kansas City Royals have produced a lower Outs Above Average (-2.4) out of the left-field position than the Dodgers (-1.9). Among the teams level with the Dodgers in left-field ineptitude this season are the Padres, who went out and addressed the issue last month in acquiring the red-hot Ramón Laureano.

Conforto’s relative upswing in July (.827 OPS) was enough that the Dodgers felt content with Alex Call being their lone position player acquisition. Roberts reiterated Thursday that he sees left field largely as a platoon between the two, though Call put together a solid series at Coors Field to bring his Dodgers numbers to 9-for-30 (.300). Thursday, Call reached three times in five plate appearances, drawing a pair of walks to go with a single.

“As you start kind of getting into September, you’ve got to figure out the guys that you’re going to go with,” Roberts said. “I think it’s just up to the guys that are in there that day to go out there and perform.”

A return to health could also change things. Roberts pointed to Kiké Hernández’s likely return next week as a potential tipping point. Perhaps Hernández could play center field against left-handed pitching, moving Pages to right field, Hernández to left and Conforto (and Call) to the bench. It appears to be under consideration. Maybe Kiké Hernández takes some left-field starts. When Hyeseong Kim returns, that’s another left-handed bat in the mix.

And actually did some great things for the Dodgers in the past

Conforto is treated like a player who had many good years for the organization and is suddenly having a down year. If that were the case, I might be able to understand the loyalty towards him.

But when he’s just a one year signing who has sucked ass his entire tenure as a Dodger, I am left confused and frustrated as hell.

I hate the fact that Conforto is still on the team. I hate that the Padres traded for Laureano whom we could've used and now he's tearing it up. I hate that Conforto head-faked the FO with that little hot streak in July. I hate that now there aren't any viable options for the Dodgers, so that a move like adding Ryan Ward to the 40-man actually makes some sense.

That said, SD gave up a lot for Laureano and O'Hearn (who is also producing for them). They mortgaged their future by sending six prospects, including their #4, #6, #12, and #29. Their cupboard is pretty bare now -- in the league's top 100, they only have #85 and #100. Credit Preller for saying now or never, but at the same time if they come up short again, they're going to be at a disadvantage the next few years.

What would it have cost the Dodgers to get Laureano? In theory it should have been less than the Padres gave up, since I doubt O'Hearn would've been part of the package. On the other hand, teams always seem to require more from the Dodgers. I'm thinking it would've been two top-ten (likely Ferris included) and possibly one or two lower prospects. He's on just a one-year contract for a very team-friendly $4M, but there's a club option for next year at $6.5M, which I'm sure the Padres will exercise.

Dodgers are playing like shit - I think I read at a 95-loss rate since the ASG. Laureano may have been the difference between them winning the division or not. In that sense, it would've been worth the prospect loss. I guess we'll never know. But for now, we get to agonize over Conforto continuing to whiff on strike three and leaving more runners to die on the bases.

    There's a perfect option
The broken record of mookie back in right
And allow one of the other 20 shortstops that can play the position to take over at short
