^ And we're going to let this guy face major league hitters??? With Harang and Lilly pitching, the Padres will win this series.

Harang is garbage. So is Lilly. And they are making a combined 18 m this season.

crapuano isn't far behind, although at $3MM he's a little more palatable

Harang showed in a pitchers park like Chavez and Petco (save for last game) that he could be effective. Capuano I was disappointed about his 1st start but again it is his 1st start. Lily showed flashes at the end of the season last year so who knows. WAAAAYYYY to early to gauge future successes of those guys. Alarmists are coming out early this year, sheesh.

Never would've guessed Harang would be part of a ticket discounting scheme. Kersh better take Strasburg to school.

If Jake Peavy was doing good this year and the Sox were shopping him, would you guys want to get him in our rotation?

define doing good. I haven't heard from the little cunt since he was traded away to the Chicago. If he was even half as good as when he was raping us back on '06 and '07, I'd have to say yes. Even if he is a douchebag. We'd be getting him to win, not make nice.

Well he's 2-0 so far with a 2.75 ERA. Let's say he keeps that up through summer; 3.20-3.30 ERA and raking up the K's like the old Jake Peavy.

    • Dodgers GM Ned Colletti told Jim Bowden and Casey Stern of MLB Network Radio on SiriusXM that he has already talked to the team's new owners about a contract extension for Andre Ethier. The topic will be further explored once the Dodgers' sale is finalized. Ethier's contract is up after this season and MLBTR's Dan Mennella recently examined the outfielder's free agent stock.
    • From that same appearance, Colletti said that he'd like to add another bat before the July 31st trade deadline, reports Bowden (via Twitter).
Interesting stuff in that he is already talking another bat. I am NOT a Colletti fan but he did okay with Rivera last year. This year needs to be a serious hitter for pitching prospects. We have an abundance. It is time to use a little of the extra. I have to think that we can now use Stephen Fife, another +pitcher, and another prospect to grab a definitive bat. The fact is you have to give to get. It depends highly on what you get. What is out there as far as 3rd baseman go? We need one who is young and can hit. PERIOD. If we could acquire an everyday hitting 3rd baseman, we could add another hitter in the offseason and have a legit hitting team. We have the pitching folks. Yes, I would love Cole Hamels but if we could get TWO hitters for the price of one Hamels, I am all for it.

It means nothing, but cool to note I guess: both ESPN and SI have us 5th on their power rankings... ESPN is a traditional power rankings and SI did it through fangraphs using advanced metrics and stuff (FWIW, the SI one had Royals 7th overall so yeah)
