With Andrew Friedman taking over as president of baseball operations and a more sabermetric-based front office in place, the Los Angeles Dodgers have been among the most aggressive teams in MLB this offseason. Aggressive, however, does not necessarily mean effective. There have been plenty of voices out there questioning just how necessary a significant retooling was, and it would appear that current pitcher Zack Greinke is among those voices.

When asked specifically about the offseason manuevering at Dodgers' Fan Fest on Saturday, Greinke sounded unimpressed at best and underwhelmed to say the least.

    From the Los Angeles Times:

"In the playoffs last year, I thought our team was the best team in baseball," Greinke said on Saturday. "Obviously, we didn’t prove it. But I thought we were the best team in baseball. So, to say we're better than that, I don’t know if you could say that."

What we can say for sure is the Dodgers offseason has been a little crazy and a lot interesting. Gone are such names as Matt Kemp, Hanley Ramirez, Dee Gordon, Dan Haren, Brian Wilson, as well as Josh Beckett, who announced his retirement in November. Among those coming on board are Jimmy Rollins, Howie Kendrick, Brandon McCarthy and Brett Anderson. So we're not talking about moves to address the periphery of the roster. There are multiple All-Stars involved, all of which are at different points in their careers, and all of which will have to blend in with their new teams.

Count the latter among Greinke's biggest concerns.

"When you change a team a lot, sometimes it takes a year, or a couple of months, to jell. It doesn’t matter if you bring in the greatest guys in the world. It takes a little time to get used to them."

Granted, some of this could be Greinke being Greinke. He's a difficult guy to please sometimes and an even tougher guy to read pretty much all of the time. But he did at least back it up with interesting points concerning team chemistry, which has been a talking point for Friedman.

"I don’t think we got rid of anyone that was an issue in our clubhouse," Greinke said. "I wouldn’t say everyone got along with everyone that is gone, but I would say there was definitely more positives than negatives with everyone that we got rid of.

"If you bring in a super clubhouse guy, that’s a positive. I don’t know the guys we brought in enough to know that we brought in some amazing person."

Maybe he just doesn't like meeting new people.

In another notable excerpt, Greinke, who turned 31 in October, says he's not yet sure whether he'll opt out of his contract after the season and become a free agent. If he does opt out, he'll forgo the final three years and $71 million on his current deal. It seems like he'd have to be really good this season or awfully unhappy afterward to consider such a decision. One or both are enitrely possible, but the beauty of Greinke is that he'll likely keep us guessing the entire time.

Time will tell.....I for one am worried about our offense's ability to produce runs. The rotation will be fine as long as everyone can stay healthy which is very questionable too given the injury to Ryu last year and the track records of Mccarthy and Anderson.

didnt read the article...too long tbh
    but . . .
i thought this dude was a stat geek?
He should have pre-ejaculation soiled boxers right now
50% of the balls in play for Greinke are ground balls
The infied went from below average to above average
It is statisitically favorable to a team to value run prevention opposed to scoring runs
you know what im unimpressed about?
    this nigga opening his mouth
tell this idiot to shut up

It should only take 2-3 double plays to turn that frown upside-down.

i kind of like what Greinke said there..they could use the balance with AGon's overly optimistic " we're better than the Giants! " attitude. show and prove. Greinke was wrong about last year's team..make him wrong about this year's team.

I think we would've wiped the floor with SF in the LCS but we cannot beat STL

The thread title isn't exactly what Greinke said. The title makes it seem like he doesn't approve of the moves made, when in reality it seems like he just thinks it'll take a little while for new guys to jell.

True, I was just copying the title from the Yahoo article. Starving for any kind of "news" in the offseason.

Agree. And I definitely think we could have beat KC. Watching a team we destroyed down the stretch was really hard. Their other two titles were obviously sickening, but this one was 10x worse because we beat up on them in September and pulled away with the division.

    This sums it up.

"If you bring in a super clubhouse guy, that’s a positive. I don’t know the guys we brought in enough to know that we brought in some amazing person."

Grainkey makes his point of a basic uncertainty based on the fact he doesn't know the new guys. It's really a simple and very clear train of thought.

The writer is an idiot. But that's what they do. They take EVERYTHING out of context.

Yeah, thats why I don't blame Lynch for not talking to the media. He could say "We lost as a team. Everyone is to blame for this loss." New title the next day, "Lynch blames teammates for loss. Does this signal the end of his days in Seattle?"

    Every team has a kryptonite.

Like how the Giants can make easy work of the Cardinals and take away a surefire victory from them in the '12 series, the Cards right now just own us. I fucking hate it, because I thought we exorcised some of those demons in the '09 series.

It especially pissed me off when the Phils beat us two years in a row and then lose the next year against the Giants.

Well, incredibly, they own Kershaw, however mind altering it all is.
And there must be some kind of sense dulling ray they shoot over to the LA dugout to make DBB be even more inept than usual....it's possible there are double agents at work.

Note to Grienke: Generally speaking, the best team in baseball doesn't have a bullpen that shits it's pants every game.

Greinke just calls it like he sees it... even if it is in his own peculiar way. And he doesn't even dispute being peculiar... but the hack writers are idiots for fomenting dissent... contrived news is all it is just like @jpl notes above.

We fans are left begging for 'some' news and these asshat hacks butcher anything and everything just to sell rags or clicks... and we eat it up because there's nothing else on the menu.

    yup
and the best team in baseball very often gets beaten along the way by a hot team
the royals were not the best in the AL and the giants were certainly not the best in the nl and the royals
then again, we were far from the best team in '88...

'88... seems like only a moment ago :dreamy:
