Lakers had a shot for the win in every game. Credit to them unlike the Celtics who have apparently quit.

The thought of that narcissist retiring without a farewell tour is beyond laughable.

As a grade school student in the middle late 70's, I became a Laker fan - Kareem, Wilkes, and Nixon. Then in high school I learned they drafted a kid who went by the name of Magic. Big Game James and By Scott joined shortly thereafter and I fell in love (some homo) with Showtime Lakers era, and it was a big part of my college years life. Eventually it came to an end, as all good things must, but I still enjoyed supporting the team during the Divac/Van Exel/Eddie Jones phase, despite no real shot at a championship. I watched as Vlade was traded on draft day for a high school kid named Kobe, and I was instantly intrigued by the potential. Kobe struggled initially as you would expect from an 18 year old. But the team acquired Big Shaq and began its next dynasty. Was both exhilarating to watch as they racked up rings and disheartening when the two argued. I always took Kobe's side due to his work ethic compared to the "I'll have surgery during company time" ethic of Shaq. Shaq moved on, and when Kobe retired, I felt my passion as a fan had peaked and was starting to trend downward - not due to the Lakers specifically, but more that I just didn't like what the NBA was becoming. Prior to that I could really relate to the players, but with every passing year, I'd related less. Did I change or was it the league? Maybe some of both, but I believe it was more the game and the league - the new style of play and player mentality was simply difficult to watch. Big guys like Lebron, Garnett, and Bosh getting bumped by smaller players and flopping hard with their arms flailing was not the game I had grown to love. I mean, during my heyday as a fan Karl Malone was the hated one, but i respected him for his hard-nosed style of play, and I was able to accept him on the team at the end of his career. Despite this drop in interest, I tried to still support the team. I thought they actually were building a nice core organically with their string of draft picks (I knew Russell, Randle, and Ingram were future stars, although drafting Ball and his dad never made sense to me). But the day Lebron was signed, the final stake was driven. There would be no Malone-type of acceptance this time. It was over for me - as a Laker fan and an NBA fan. I watched one game during the season of the last Laker championship, and none since. Does the NBA care that they alienated fans like me? Probably not... but the feeling is mutual.

To each their own I guess. I'll start this off that I did once have an irrational hatred for Lebron at one point. Then I actually started watching him, it was a year before he joined the Lakers. and every time he steps foot on the court he defies logic like no one else. You may loathe the flopping style of play. That's just today's game. It isn't something he started, it's not much different than a catcher framing pitches. But for every time Lebron actually flops, and it is not that much, he gets hit in the head 5 more times and no sells it. It's just the times he does actually flop, it is especially egregious. The thing you probably more don't like is the constant complaining about officiating that he and so many others do on the court. But I love basketball, the NBA today might be different, it is faster paced and there are a ton more 3 point attempts. There are some pretty incredible things those players do on the court and Lebron is at the top of that list.
There is just one thing I don't get is you are mentioning work ethic and Kobe while completely loathing Lebron. He doesn't average 29, 8, and 7 in his 20th year then comeback from an injury that several doctors told him his season was over to get to the Western Conference Finals without having one of the most insane work ethics on the planet. He and Kobe were cut from the same cloth, and Kobe knew it too.

ehhhh, He knows the trash can media can't get his name out of their mouths. all he did was change the talking point from "Lebron got swept" to "Lebron might retire." Either way they won't shut up about him.

No doubt Lebron is a generational talent. It's just that he exudes douchery, so it's not just the flopping that makes him unwatchable to me. Like you said, to each his own. You like all the 3 point attempts. I say give me the game of yesteryear - less threes, more defense, passing, teamwork. A more physical game where if someone ends up on the floor, there's a legitimate reason why.

    That did not resonate well.

I'll take a cab with my shit sandwich.

Never thought they would get rolled at home after coming back from down 3-0. Loved every minute of it.

Congrats to the Miami Heat for winning by 21.

I can watch the NBA Finals in peace without the Celtics in it.
