Players are more and more coming out in support of severe penalties to anyone tied to this Astros shit. The MLBPA will have a dilemma on their hands in all likelihood as they have a responsibility to protect their members when actions are taken against them, but what happens when other members want these guys heads on pikes? People keep saying, "well the players that want these guys suspended are mediocre nobodies". Well, exactly... Those guys are legit pissed cause this cheating likely cost players like them a chance for extended time in MLB. Some pitchers were called up to face the Astros, they were crushed and subsequently sent back to the minors, while in some cases even for good. That is money now that he will never see that could have helped support his family while he goes back to making $50K a year, while riding buses around the East Coast or Southwest. They need performance enhancing drug type bans for the players as that is basically what they took. 80 games and no playoffs for 2020. Then going forward have it be a lifetime ban so that teams don't dare try to pull this shit again. I am very thankful that the Yankees were impacted by this cheating(arguably more so than we are as we are talking TWO potential WS appearances compared to our one) since MLB will take more stock in their frustrations than say ours, the Rays, AL West or even the Red Sox. Pitchers want blood, a growing number of other players want bans and MLB needs to sack the fuck up start destroying some god damned lives. I have two things that are determining whether I will re-up my MLB.TV package. If MLB is light on the Astros, I may cancel. If the Dodgers have a shitty offseason, I may cancel. If both those things happen, I WILL cancel.

Some rumors on one of the slowest news days of the year:
    • Molly Knight has a report over at The Athletic with first hand accounts that MLB players are calling for SEVERE penalties of the Astros. Lifetime bans are being mentioned, which is somewhat shocking. I'm interested to see how the players react if a light penalty is thrown down. Pitchers could (and should) at that point take matters into their own hands.
    • Tracy Ringolsby(aka Cowboy Dip Shit) has a report over at Baseball America about Gerrit Cole and his personality. Apparently he is one of the few players that drives the car and has Scott Boras ride in the back when it comes to his free agent decisions. Boras pushed Cole to sign with the Yankees out of HS, but Cole preferred college. Apparently he may be doing the same thing here as he is likely not going to be interested in just the highest offer and that all signs behind the scenes point to him signing with a team on the West Coast as that is what he has told people he plans to do. This could work out well for the Dodgers as he may be willing to take less money or years to make things work in LA. Though you can not rule out the Angels by any means since they seem very willing to spend money and we may have an idea of what their stadium future looks like here in the coming weeks.
    • Starling Marte has asked for a trade away from the rebuilding and toxic clubhouse of the Pirates. Marte is coming off of one of the best offensive seasons of his career, but saw his defensive numbers take a dive in centerfield. Some analytic folks think he was hurt by the Pirates notoriously shitty defensive positioning and would greatly improve with other teams. The Mets are said to be actively trying to acquire him and he said some nice things about the org that has the NY media all abuzz. This Dodgers FO have reportedly kicked the tires on Marte multiple times in the past and there is some belief that they would do so again. He has another cheap team option in 2021 which makes him a bit more valuable, but his past where he was nailed for PED's and struggles to stay on the field for a full season may hurt that value somewhat. This would need to be paired with Pollock finding a new home which seems unlikely.
    • Scott Alexander and Yimi Garcia are Non-tender candidates ahead of the deadline on Wednesday.

His velo has actually remained pretty consistent throughout his career. None of his major injuries have been normal baseball injuries either so he will probably get a 4-5 year deal. Shoulder injury was from the motorbike and then a broken finger when he tried to bare-hand the comebacker. I think he is a major D-bag, but I think this clubhouse needs one of those guys(which is probably why they like Donaldson, too). With that said, he would have to come with multiple other pieces before I would generally be ok with picking him up.

I like your answer. I've always been in favor of giving Madbum a shot. He may have lost a step or two but IMO he's better than Kershaw at this stage in their careers. Also IMO a better starting option than Maeda or Stripling. A rotation of Buehler/Urias/May/Madbum/Kershaw would be pretty solid.

I disagree with the notion that he's better than Kershaw. He's 3/4 of Kershaw's ability to pitch at likely 1/2 the cost.

The future of sports fandom is it's past.
Lair events pull all fan interests together.
    When interests combine they compound.
That should be in all of our best interests.

    should be but it isn’t
    lair events were great
but in some cases you don’t know someone until you know what an idiot they are
fandom isn’t what it’s cracked up to be
just because someone likes the same team as you doesn’t mean you can nor should ignore serious character flaws, personality disorders or sociopathic tendencies
    hypothetically speaking of course

    paging @rube...

The Baltimore Orioles placed slugging second baseman Jonathan Villar on outright waivers, according to multiple reports. The move, which appears designed to help the Orioles trade Villar out of Baltimore ahead of Monday's non-tender deadline, was first reported by MASN Sports. The Baltimore-based sports network reported Villar was placed on outright waivers after the Orioles were unable to find a suitable trade partner for him before the deadline.

The 28-year-old turned in a career year for Baltimore last season, hitting .274 with career highs in hits (176), home runs (25) and RBIs (73). He ranked third in stolen bases in the American League with 40. A switch-hitter who led the Orioles in runs (111) and triples (5) last season, Villar is due a big raise in salary arbitration, and MASN reports that the rebuilding Orioles would rather not spend huge money on him.

Since we are in the hypothetical days of the year and the inevitable talk of Cleveland being open to a large trade of Lindor AND Kluber, what would you guys give up?

Kluber had a rough season due to a fractured arm and never quite hot going but he's still under contract for a 1 and 1.

I'd part with Lux, Joc and Gonsling and another piece.

    Lindor AND Kluber?

Both have 2 years of control and only one-year commitment, both could also be the best player on our team. I’d easily give up Lux and Gonsolin. More to be honest. Neither is super cheap, but the price is good - we might need to shed some salary to make it work.

I actually think Seager would be the big piece in this trade, bring a third team in...

Dodgers avoided arbitration with Scott Alexander for $875 K. He was projected for over $1M with both Kolarek and Alexander being in very interesting situations going forward where their values could be getting massively hit. Being that Alexander has back pedaled into being a LOOGY at best since joining the club, he could have been looking at an MiLB deal with the new rules coming out in 2020 in the event he was non-tendered. While being a massive disappointment with the club, Alexander does still have the recent history of being one of the more dominant LH relievers the game. So a sub $1M investment is well worth the gamble.
