Re. #2.......Pick your poison. Mets hit, can't pitch. Reds pitch, can't hit. You would think the Dodgers should handle either but it's a three game series so...........

i fully expect roberts to do something stupid like replace pitchers every inning and exhaust everyone…

“I talked it over with Priorsy and decided to do it, even though he completely disagreed. That’s what’s great about this organization… you have all these great minds as resources, but ultimately a complete dullard gets to make the call. My bad, that’s African-American/Asian dullard to you.”

I may come to regret sort of wanting the Reds to take the last playoff spot, but at the moment it's worth the chuckle I have on the Mets needing help tomorrow to get in. They were so clear in the off-season on having the league's best lineup 1-9.

    heaney is garbage
okay if he’s here only for today and tomorrow
but him over klein in the postseason just because he’s a lefty would be idiotic imo
if we go through kersh, vesia, banda and wrobleski i don’t see heaney improving the situation

now, if it’s heaney over tanner…

why he's up and the right hander down who knows?
hard to imagine he's just here for the end of the year isn't it?

especially since they made sure to acquire him just ahead of the deadline so he’d be eligible for the postseason

What a difference a year makes.

Last postseason, these were the Dodgers starting pitchers:

    Division Series
    Game 1 - Yamamoto
    Game 2 - Flaherty
    Game 3 - Buehler
    Game 4 - bullpen
    Game 5 - Yamamoto

    League Championship Series

    Game 1 - Flaherty
    Game 2 - bullpen
    Game 3 - Buehler
    Game 4 - Yamamoto
    Game 5 - Flaherty
    Game 6 - bullpen

    World Series
    Game 1 - Flaherty
    Game 2 - Yamamoto
    Game 3 - Buehler
    Game 4 - bullpen
    Game 5 - Flaherty

Kind of crazy to think that the pen pitched 9 full innings in four games, plus a bunch of innings in other games (especially in Flaherty starts). It's a miracle that the Dodgers won all three series. This year, there's NO WAY the pen would be able to pull that off.

But they shouldn't have to throw nearly as many innings. With six legitimate starters, Roberts could pick four starters, have two more for long relief as needed, plus still have a multi-inning reliever in Wrobo. Of course the counter argument is that there's the wildcard series to add more innings. But the point is that there should be no bullpen games, and if a starter gets hit early they'll have another pitcher that can pick up multiple innings.

It'll be interesting to see who the starters will be. Yoshi and Snell are obvious, and we already know that CK will be working out of the pen. How will Shohei be used? I'm hearing Glasnow is the third starter. Personally, I might prefer Sheehan. His numbers were stronger than Glasnow's in a number of ways - ERA, WHIP, K/BB. He had a great year. But I guess Glasnow's postseason experience may trump that. Although, Tyler hasn't performed well in the playoffs (career ERA 5.72 over ten starts). Can he be trusted?

Home field advantage hasn't been all that in the best of three wild card series. This is from a LAT story.........

The Reds will be the lower-seeded underdog in next week’s series. But recent history suggests that could work to their benefit.

In three postseasons since MLB expanded its playoff field in 2022, road teams have won in eight of the 12 best-of-three wild card series — a reminder that with such a small sample size, anything is possible in the crapshoot of October.

This year will be the Dodgers’ first time playing in the new wild card round, after they secured byes to the division series in each of the past three seasons.
