really tough to look away from a player of his caliber
and i do think he would be a drastic improvement to our rotation
that said, yama/snell/shohei is an incredible postseason trio — especially with glas and emmett ready to fill in
and the player/prospect cost would be substantial
if AF really wants him, wait til he’s a free agent and sign him without having to give up anyone
but with boras involved he won’t be cheap
    probably pass but…

    It's simple for me
If Skubal is willing to sign an extension, trade for him regardless of the prospect package
If Skubal is not willing to sign an extension, wait until FA unless the prospect package is laughably small (Freddy Peralta type package)
    Roki is not going anywhere
I doubt they want to break the trust of high-profile Japanese players coming over to MLB before they turn pro

Interesting... Obviously they know what they're doing and I trust their opinion over mine, but on the surface Ibanez seems to have some value at the plate while Siani is just a glove. I guess with Kike not available for a while (assuming they sign him) and Call as the only pure backup outfielder, Siani became a more pressing need. Plus the IF has Rojas, Kim, and Freeland providing backup. Okay, I get it now.

I see Siani as a Esteury Ruiz/Justin Dean guy
He will only sniff the majors if multiple injuries happen that include Andy Pages
Dodgers must feel pretty good about Alex Freeland, Hyseseong Kim, or Kike's recovery progress – or all 3 – or 2 of 3

    https://dodgersway.com/baffling-dodgers-roster-move-just-ditched-recent-signing-for-bizarre-reunion

Glad I'm not the only one who initially found this "baffling," but yeah, it makes sense to me now. There's a reason that Dean was on the late season/postseason roster, and Siani could well be that guy. Kind of comical, though, that they can just eat $1.2M plus luxury tax like it's nothing. Must be nice. Good for Ibanez though, that's some pretty good dough for doing nothing at all.

In other news Rortvedt was DFA'd. I know Dodgers have no room on the 40-man, but man, sure would be nice to have him in the system as an insurance policy should something happen to Smith or Rushing.

yeah the money is stupid but for real why claim Rortvedt and then cut him loose?
i get teams are trying to get even a little bit better all the time but man he didn't even get a chance to show up to training camp!
its been a couple of months and it makes you wonder if he has housing lined up in Cincy and stuff like that
guess for these fringe guys there's no such thing as getting comfortable cause its not even based on performance yet
if LA were to claim Ben would he have to be on the 40 man?

Yes, he'd have to be on the 40-man

and a big FU to skubal
they’ll take him (a fan favorite and two-time cy young winner) to arbitration, and then overpay for a selfish low-character guy
    stay classy detroit

Tarik Skubal won his arbitration case
    Hole
    Lee
    Fuck
What an absolutely massive win for the players in general
The previous record was like 18.5M and Tarik just got 32M
The shitty owners have to be fuming about this

I'm guessing Detroit's legal team doesn't play much poker....

Huge win indeed and yet still significantly less than the ridiculous contract Detroit gave to Valdez, who may very well be in the downside of his career. Of course Skubal will get more than that after free agency, but for now the disparity remains.

    fuck those idiots
tried to penny pinch skubal and then overpaid for a cheating low character douche
and when said douchebag melts down (and he will) everyone — especially skubal and boras — will be laughing
sadly for tigers fans, they’re the ones getting screwed

    Bobby Miller, FWIW

    https://www.si.com/mlb/dodgers/onsi...o-build-back-up-from-rock-bottom-01kgqbq45ga0

    Couple thoughts:

    1. Says he's been playing with a chip on his shoulder the last couple of years. I'm not sure he entirely understands what that phrase means.
    2. Also says he's starting from rock bottom and working his way back up, just like he did before. Um, unless he's referring to little league or something, I have no idea what he thinks he's worked back from. He was drafted first round, and following his fall after making some noise at the big league level in '23, he's never fully worked his way back up. Getting called up for a game or two and shitting the bed doesn't count.
    3. Best case scenario for the Dodgers is that he shows some early season success in OKC and the team cashes in with a trade for some younger prospect whom they can actually develop.

bobby doesn’t strike me as the brightest individual, so by chip on his shoulder he probably means doritos

i'd get chip IN his shoulder more than on
has to be hard to be playing at an elite level most of your life and then get figured out in the show
temptation would be to make excuses and point fingers
hope he manages to get back what he lost even if its on another squad

Dodgers are phenomenal at trading someone who isn't a right fit for the team for some no-name prospect and two years later the prospect is top ten in the organization and full of potential. Caleb Ferguson for Christian Zazueta is one example. Lux for Sirota plus the pick that got Davalan is another. Hunter Feduccia for Serwinowski (plus Gervase and Rortvedt to a lesser extent) is a third. Would love to see them do the same with Miller but he has to give teams a reason to want him first.

    Random Q:

Considering the situation, was Pages's catch in game 7 the best catch in WS history?

The Mays catch was in game 1 of a sweep.

Verducci and Costas discussed this briefly in an MLB Network Special about the 2025 WS

Situationally, yes, since if the ball fell the Blue Jays win the game and Series, but degree of difficulty, no (although he covered an impressive amount of ground to get there). I still maintain that Kike had it sized up pretty well and makes that catch four out of five times.
