I still have faith in Mookie. Just seems to me the older he gets the longer it takes him to bounce back/ get his timing back. Last year he was sick to start the season and then his bat speed suffered until late. This year he had the oblique and that set him back which I kind of expected given last year. Hopefully it won't take him as long to get his speed and timing back but I think he'll get there if he can stay healthy. He's still too young to have that much of a regression permanently.

Having said that though, he also needs to be sympathetic to fans and accept that they have the right to call out a player who's not getting the job done.

    @DodgersNation
Mookie Betts says he deleted social media from his phone after receiving negative comments from fans amid an 8-for-54 slump.

Kind of a douche move, but hey ... he's worth 70+ million dollars... he can douche it up & still be carefree.

Sonja Chen via X: Kiké Hernández's MRI showed a "significant tear," Dave Roberts said. Still no timeline for his return.

    My take: He gone

Why's he have to talk about it? Delete your social media if it makes you feel better, but no need to make a point of it.

That's the proper way to phrase it. Wish I'd said it that way.

These guys agonize waaa---aay too much about media-appeal. They play the game we'd GLADLY forsake some days/weeks/years off our life to suit up for one game in our whole lives.

Smell yourselves a bit, pros, before you all overvalue yourselves, or others. Acclaim in this life doesn't mean shit in the next, guaranteed.

    exactly
    i love mookie (homo)
but he’s acting like a high school bkitch
he’s not the first top-tier athlete to be criticized, but one of the few to whine about it
not sure what he expects to accomplish by complaining
it’s not likely his critics are going to suddenly feel sorry for him and publicly apologize

    i have a theory
it may be spot on or a million miles off
when we first acquired mookie, it was he who helped lead us to a championship
he was the undisputed star of the team
but in the time since, we’ve filled the roster with other stars while others have developed
he is no longer THE guy and, IMO, i think he’s a little upset about it
in fact, i wouldn’t be completely surprised if he asked to be traded

    idk, just my thoughts

if he asked to be traded that would be accommodated in a nano second imo. probably need to swallow a decent portion of the contract. but yeah he's starting to get some diva action going. don't even see FF acting like his bff much if at all. thats not how any of these guys used to act and what makes them special. as far as the social media thing some guys just have to make it about themselves. like @lastatman said just walk away. same as donating money to charity etc. no one needs to know and no one cares. he's been dictating his position for sure and what else? who knows. no time for someone like that and at the same time i hope i'm wrong. teams much better when he's head down motivated to be his best.

I don't think your million miles off, more like a trillion
    1,000,000 millions
Dude deleted his social media, whoopty doo
The best of the best have extreme internal standards, it probably drives him crazy to be slumping like he never has before – over a full year of baseball, plus some
    and their hyper-attuned to criticism
Last thing he wants to read are his fans talking shit to him

don't think anyone has an issue w him deleting it. the issue is talking about it to the writers so the world will know how butt hurt he is.

    Bingo.

I've deleted posts on X before. Half a bottle of bourbon & late-night doomscrolling rarely stands up to standards of prose excellence.

Betts vs Machado contracts, by the numbers:

    Mookie
    Turns 34 this October
Contract goes through 2032 season (will be 39 that season)
    Currently hitting .182/.649 OPS
Have secured three rings with him under this contract so far

    Dumbo
    Turns 34 in July
Contract goes through 2033 season (will turn 41 in July that season)
    Currently hitting .169/.603 OPS
Zero rings with him under contract

Which of these would scare you more, as a fan?

Two big factors that need to be considered. Mookie is generally a well-liked guy by teammates and fans (not just of his team, but baseball in general). He's a plus presence in the clubhouse. Also, the Dodgers can move him down in the lineup as they did yesterday, and can even move him further down if his production dictates, and it doesn't hurt as much since there are other big bats they can plug in. Machado is and always will be a cancer. There's a reason he has zero rings. Mookie sprints out infield grounders and steals some hits. Has Machado ever run hard on a grounder? And to the second point, Padres need him in that cleanup role - they don't have adequate replacements.

Bottom line, we knew the Mookie contract would be tough towards the end, but the three rings make it much easier to swallow, and I think the Dodgers will be okay riding it out. The Machado contract will be an albatross to the Padres championship hopes soon, if not already.

Lauer could prove to be very valuable when Snell and Glasnow return to the rotation. I could see them piggy backing with Lauer. Both of these injury prone stiffs are going to have to build up before their next trips to the IL.

Either Tatis Sr. hates his son or they are the dumbest cunts alive
How does a rich kid with a dad who played in the Majors get caught up in these exploitative contracts
Kids from absolutely nothing are the ones that should be exploited by these types of deals, not rich sons of mlb players

Assuming his agent gets 3-5% of his earnings
    340M - 34M to BLA - 17M (5%) to agent - 191M from state and federal theft
Dude is *only* going to net about 98M over his 14 years
    7M per season take-home pay
    crazy

    My thoughts on this.
    1. I doubt he ran it by his dad or anyone else older and wiser than himself. Probably figured he was the man and knew what he was doing.
    2. This is like the reverse of buying an insurance policy - basically hedging his bets. I've spent a lot of money over the years on home and car insurance and barely have had any claims. Can I go demand those premiums back now because I didn't need the insurance after all? Of course not.
    3. Something about his persona tells me that this will affect him on the field... maybe already is.
    4. I shed no tears over his take home being only $7M per year, but it is pretty crazy.

i doubt pops had much money left after his playing days. says he earned $18 mil but i'm sure there were a lot of hands out in a big family and even though that seems like a lot...
anyway i doubt he had great advisors around him. probably more like thieves and grifters. i could see more of a scenario where pops was warning him not to do what he did and avoid the guys he knew in his day.
the guys approaching Jr. might have seemed like a breath of fresh air and possibly even solved immediate cash flow needs for the family i have no idea. still a solvent savvy financial family isn't going to even listen to what BLA was spitting.
also you're right about he quite possibly thought he knew what he was doing like any og obviously would. kids tend to do that a lot more today than they used to. i remember being scared to death of contracts and what i was signing. i'd listen to anyone willing to take the time to talk to me.
had to do a hard money loan once to not write a huge check during a 1031 exchange and those guys are set to drain everything they can. cracks me up to hear he's ready to give them back the $2million to make them whole. these guys are bullet to the brain don't fuck w us mafioso types. he's paying every dime of that 10% one way or another.
what really surprises me is that they need him to actually pay them the money. i would have thought it would have been set up where their money came off the top when his checks were dispersed. the fact they didn't have a leveraged position is a little odd.
don't feel even a little bit sorry for him. be willing to bet a company like BLA loses on a large percentage of those deals. when a number like $2million is involved you had better be paying for lawyers hours to review it. anyone knows that and if he made the choice to forego expense than shame on him.
almost a certainty it affects his play
