My impression of him is that he's a pretty astute dude as far as finances and his value as a player. I don't know that Borass will have the same influence over him as he might have over someone greener/less financially aware. But even so, I believe that even without Borass pushing him, or as you say an elder in his family, he expects to maximize his earning potential and get a max contract here, and will self-advocate to that end. Along those same lines, though, he's smart enough to see that there's a lot of uncertainty with salary caps and team spending and could potentially look to lock something in sooner rather than later, with or without Boras' blessing.

 

I'm starting to hear some Skubal trade chatter that is just absurd. The one from today was Ryan and Sirota. That would enrage me to no end, and I have to assume the Dodgers front office is smarter than that. Gotta remember that Skubal is recovering from injury - nobody knows how effective he'll be the rest of this season... and then he's gone. This may be considered blasphemous, but there's a chance that Ryan will be the better pitcher the remainder of this year... and then we still have him in '27 and beyond.

What if Skubal bounces back really slowly once he starts pitching again? Dodgers starters are pitching great, they have Snell and Ryan and maybe Glassman coming back, so they don't need to take a chance on Skubal. At this point the ONLY reason I see to trade for him is to not have to face him in October, and that's a risk I'm willing to take if Detroit expects a package like the one above.

Cool stat but surprising that it's only been done twice. Like some star pitchers with perfect games haven't done it two more times? Or even those with no hitters where a walk may have come early in the game?
