i really hope the best for this guy. every time his numbers come up its like they're all luck and no way he's doing it without smoke and mirrors. maybe to some degree its true but if its so easy why doesn't it happen all the time? beyond pure talent he's got grit and tenacity or he isn't in the show. tough business but i hope Zappa makes a career of it. see you around Tony.

He does a lot of dumb things and should've been fired after the 2019 NLDS. But the way he managed the pitching staff in the postseason in 2024 and even in 2025 was pretty impressive. That, along with 3 championships (tbf, anyone could've/would've won 6 championships the past 10 years with these rosters)...tough to fire him now.
Therein lies the problem. His supporters will cite the three championships, but fail to acknowledge that it should be five.. or six. Bochy got three with SF and he deserves credit, he led MARGINAL teams to championships. With the rosters the Dodgers have had it doesn't take a great manager to get them over the top. In this scenario it's not championship wins that define how good the manager is. I'll concede that yes, he did well with substitutions last October, but the Dodgers should not have had to play the wildcard series. They should not have lost to SD and ARI in consecutive NLDS's. Roberts rarely gets mentioned in those failures. What I really wish is that there was an algorithm that could calculate MWAR - manager's WAR. How many wins does Roberts manage to over what an average manager would with the same roster? I bet Davey's MWAR would be negative.
another thing that roberts routinely does is the we/they thing whenever the team is doing well it’s always “we’re really pitching well… we’re coming up with big at bats… we’re playing good baseball…” but whenever there’s a negative… “the guys down there in the pen aren’t getting it done… guys aren’t driving in runners… the starters need to go deeper…” he must have taken a seminar at an airport hilton on how to deflect blame
