Just watched the Puppy Bowl...wtf is an American Akita ? Lot of the breed breakdowns had that in them.

 

the pictures i post of my dogs are American akitas
they are slightly larger, different face and larger variety of colors from the Japanese akita
the Japanese are a bit more fox like and come in red, grey and white afaik
Japanese don't have the black masks that i've ever seen
American has a shorter snout and shorter ears if bred properly
now i'm going to need to go find that on youtuber
was doing my best to avoid the American idiot band and come in for the beginning of the game

I know when Americans breed certain dogs they are often different, not only with what owners are allowed to do to them...like mutilating Dobermans fpr the American tastes on what they should look like.
The bis at Westminster this year would look totally different in England...but some dogs are decidedly different physically...like Labs and bulldogs. The Akitas are simply elegant and beautiful.

anyone spend time in Japan that has thoughts/tips/can't misses?
going to do the fairly standard Tokyo/Kyoto/Osaka spin and so far outside of food an onsen hot spring sounds wild
apparently Feb/March is really nice for less crowds and everything seems relatively inexpensive
combined w my chase sapphire points covering the hotels its shaping up to be a fairly cheap date!
going to rock my new Rojas jersey and carry some 8x10s to hand out to the best fans and sushi chefs
looks like the rails are the only way to go

just an fyi apparently this is a great time and i booked Singapore airlines nonstop for cheap
was looking at Japan airlines as well but have a great memory of the one time i flew Singapore otw to Sri lanka
they don't play by the same rules we do and service is everything : )))

 

Dog shelter ( OSCAR) down the road in Andover, NJ, yesterday, burned down...looks like 4 dags didn't make it, unfortunately.
The others are being ferried all over the place....other shelters and foster homes.
Sad stuff, but Go Fund Me has raised $ 184, 000 to date in less than 24 hours.
I guess that says something about people...

 

Damn sad news for sure. Hopefully they adopt those out ASAP.

The pet adoption pipeline here is pretty deep. Several neighbors here adopted rescues from the NC floods in 2024. Apparently there are hundreds of dogs gone feral since then - they keep finding them in isolated areas.

Likewise, we get Michigan, NY, & Pennsylvania rescues. So many dags here. I'd say we have 60+ dog walkers a day on our street.
