Don't worry about beating a dead horse...because there will always be someone to remind you...but the real dead horse, is the lingering, gaping problems the team has year after year. And with no apparent solution it seems...not any this FO can address to any successful degree it seems. Just stfu and watch it all again??
All the depth in the world, the superb minor leagues, the Cuban stable being assembled..all positive and great things, surely. But what good are they when your pitching staff, top to bottom, gives it completely up, game after game? I mean it's nice to be listed top of the pops in certain categories, but every year, whether it's best ERA, or best fielding, MVPs, CY, or most HRs, or division championships even, we always bleed out from the same wound.

 

O'Day would have been a nice addition. Would have been a nice contrast to the over the top hard throwers like Baez, Hatcher and Jansen.

While it's true the Dodgers did try to land several top bullpen arms, and because each situation is unique I can't blame them much for missing out on the guys they missed out on - BUT the bottomline is they didn't address the issue. You don't get a pass for trying and failing. You can't have a list of 3 guys and if you fail to get those 3 guys "oh well".

 

I cringe a little every time someone on here or in the media mentions we have "reinforcements" coming mid season. While I hope it's true and we have some injured players come back strong, I wouldn't hold my breath. These guys have major injuries that have put them on the shelf. How often do we see setbacks and guys who take years to get back to where they were (if they ever do)? Not to mention, IF these guys come back and contribute, who on the current staff will be injured by then? Ryu, McCarthy, Anderson... I hope we get something from them this season, but like you I hope for everyone's sake the FO isn't counting on it.

The vast majority of injured pitchers do not come back at any level of competence.

There's a fair point and begs the question, 'Is the current bullpen any worse off than that version?' If the answer is no, then it kind of supports theory of why overspend on the bullpen when it's a crapshoot anyway? Most relievers can not sustain a high level of performance for more than 3 or 4 years. Sure there are exceptions, but by and large they tend to fall by the wayside due to injury or losing command, or the league catches up to them. That doesn't excuse a low level of performance, but it does seem to somewhat justify bargain hunting in general. I mean, if the results are more or less the same, then why spend the extra money?

 

If that is true, they could have spent on better SP.

 

Once again, if we win the same amount of games with the current starting pitching, why spend the dough? It's a business in the end.
