Puig came up a little over a year being signed. If he comes up at age 20-21 that would be amazing. All I'm saying is even though Moncada is a great talent like everyone says doesn't mean it'll happen like Puig. Jorge Soler just came up late last year and he was as hyped as Puig.

    http://m.dodgers.mlb.com/news/artic...ould-keep-dodgers-out-of-yoan-moncada-bidding
Despite all of that, sources indicate the club hasn't concluded whether to go forward when Moncada is given clearance to sign, because of the costly repercussions that would prevent the Dodgers from signing any expensive pool-eligible players, Cuban or otherwise, for two years.

Seems like the penalties associated with signing Moncada at the expected price could keep the Dodgers out of the bidding.

It's all just a cash grab isn't it Tuborg?

The MLB doesn't want to open it's hallowed doors without creating some BS scheme where teams have to pay extra $$$$ simply to bid on available talent...

almost sounds like a cartel.. ahem.. Not that 'that' argument will play any better in the courts this time than last time

    depends on a few things...
    • how high our guys view his potential
    • how soon they expect him in the bigs
    • and what prospective players we could miss out on for the years afterward

Two years isn't that long to wait to sign more big time international players. Especially with our already improved farm and all our $$$ in the meanwhile. Show moncada the money

Aside from the money, kid's actually from Puig's old stomping grounds in Cuba and so the Cienfuegos connection may help sway him if its a tight race.

What kind of spike in farm rankings will he give the Dodgers if he does sign? If he jumps into the Top 10 that'd give the Dodgers 3 in the Top 10..almost unfair for a team that won 94 games last year and is back to back division champs. Only the sorry ass Cubs and Twins have consistently had that kind of quality at the top of their farms lately.

The more I think this would be the right thing for the Dodgers to do, the more I think that it won't happen.

Dodgers' pursuit of Cuban phenom Yoan Moncada will be telling
by Steve Dilbeck | Los Angeles Times — 8 hours ago

Are they being sneaky little devils? Lying hidden in the woods, ready to pounce unexpectedly? Just when everyone has exhaled and got all relaxed, set to SHOCK THE WORLD!

OK, possibly a slight exaggeration. It’s not like the Dodgers haven’t been very busy this off-season. But the only splashy moves, the kind new ownership sort of taught us to expect, were the ones that sent superstars Matt Kemp and Hanley Ramirez out of town.

There has been no headline-grabbing acquisition. No inbound superstar. Nothing in itself to excite the Dodgers’ masses.

Only now you have to wonder if the Dodgers might yet exercise their financial muscle. One option, as examined Tuesday, would be a late run at free agent pitcher James Shields, whose price tag has seemingly plummeted.

But another bold and exciting move would be to sign the latest Cuban phenom, Yoan Moncada, the young infielder that Major League Baseball ruled eligible Tuesday to sign with any team.

And if the Dodgers really remain intent on building the system depth and willing to spend to do it, they need to sign him.

That’s what several team executives think is going to happen, according to ESPN’s Buster Olney. The Dodgers will emerge from a relative financial slumber – though, of course, they still have a record payroll – and win Moncada.

He will not come cheaply. Anything but. Whatever is spent to sign him will have to be doubled by a 100% tax. So should he sign for $40 million, that’s an $80-million overall price tag. Not that it’s ever difficult for me to spend other people’s money.

Moncada is only 19, so that’s plenty of risk. Plus, the Dodgers have not had much luck in signing their last two Cuban shortstops, spending a combined $53 million to sign Alex Guerrero and Erisbel Arruebarrena. And it turned out Guerrero can’t field and Arruebarrena can’t hit.

Moncada supposedly has the talent to rival Yasiel Puig, and it's believed he could also play second or third. And since it remains uncertain if the Dodgers’ most prized prospect, Corey Seager, will continue at shortstop or be moved to third, that perceived versatility down the road is extremely valuable.

The Moncada pursuit will be telling. If the Dodgers are still willing to spend big to revamp their system and set themselves up for the future, they have to go hard for him. But if they truly believe the major overhaul is done and they can back off the big-money purchases that helped bring fan belief back to a battered franchise, then they’ll take a pass.

    Ready to be shocked?

Especially since every single news outlet says we are the front runners. Makes it even more unlikely if we are following the trend of this offseason.

    But in short...we need him.

Sorry to double post (going to get warned for sure).

But if Manfred has anything to say about it. This seems like its coming sooner rather than later.

" shocked " for what? Zaidi himself only said publicly that they'd be in on him. Dilbeck still playing armchair GM through the media. Sit down.
