That 40 million contract value is based on? He hasn't had any offers and since he isnt major league ready his actual signing cost could be a lot less. A number of teams are interested but at what price point? Is anyone willing to pay 40 million plus the penalty or is that just a speculative pipe dream?

Yes. Cubans are the hot commodity now. People want a shot at the next Puig/Cespedes/Abreu. Of course, he could go for a lower price. I hope he does, but it's a god damn arms race for these Cubans.

They are saying he is very near to making a decision. Then I read how his plan is to decide by the 23rd. That isn't very near if you ask me.

Wow...he makes it all look so easy. Legs like tree trunks.
I would be so nice to have him in the system, but the penalties (or restrictions, whatever) may be to stiff for the FO to accept...not a great situation, but he looks so dominating at such a young age.

This picture makes me reminiscent of Yasiel... He's fucking 19 and looks like a grown man.

Throw everything we got at him. Straight up, go get this kid.

Hmmmmm and another hmmmm. Gotta wonder about the training program in Cuba and with such high stakes for success gotta wonder what all is involved.

    • There are so many guys out there in the Cuban pipeline that the teams who will be banned from signing them are hesitant and I can understand it. Here is another example:

    • Right-hander Yadier Alvarez, just 18, is the latest Cuban citizen drawing buzz. Jon Heyman of CBSSports.com tweeted recently that he is pushing a high-90s fastball, and today Kiley McDaniel of Fangraphs reports (Twitter links) that his buzz “checks out.” Not only does the young righty work in the mid-90s and touch even higher, he has a “more than usable” change to go with it. That will likely result in a big payday, per McDaniel, who also notes in a tweet that it may take a month or two for him to be cleared to sign.
Hector Olivera is going to be a Dodger I predict and Moncada won't, I just have a feeling.

Why would we sign Olivera? He's 10 years older than Moncada and we already have a 2B man for 2015

Scouts say he's better than Tomas and Castillo, and he's as good a 3B as he is a 2B. Let him back everyone up this year then next year throw out Gonzalez/Moncada/Seager/Olivera and take the pick from Kendrick

Does it matter which order they sign these guys in? They can sign both?

Idk. Isn't he about to turn 30? Backing guys up at 30 and then becoming a starter at 31? If you sign him I'd imagine he'd need to be fast tracked to 3B to get the most of what you're paying for..no?

I'll concede to the economic guys I suppose.

Moncada's also getting worked out in CF by teams. He's played there in the past as well. Would allow them to keep Kendrick's righty bat and keep that balance.

    L Joc LF
    R Puig RF
    L Agon 1B
    R Olivera 3B
    L Seager SS
    R Kendrick 2B
    L Grandal C
    S Moncada CF

He isn't subject to the dollar for dollar penalty plus the 2 year signing ban makes him less risky to sign than Moncada. Oh yeah and the penalty money is due upon contract signing in CASH!!!!!!! Olivera is major league ready which could be insurance for an aging Uribe. Not sure who I would sign but just have a feeling they'd prefer a less complicated situation. Plus the Cuban flood gates are about to to open.

All I need is one of your dreaded " no how, no way! " declarations to solidify it. Lol
