Since what many people consider to be Roberts' incompetence the main reason ( on sooomany levels) for and you find it a joke, then what would your reasons be for relentless failure be ? For instance , will Betts be another useless nub during the post season from playing ss every night? So what's your reasoning on all of it then...to actually win? Aside from the playoff format, which does hold some water, I agree, but has not been around for a decade, during which the LAD have approximately the 10% success rate in the WS. The plague year. We won't even mention the three decades prior losers and many, many managers.
1. each year, it has been his and his player's fault for the team's failures but while the players have come and gone, only he has remained some even moved on to win rings elsewhere (seager, trea) 2. i don't agree with the change in playoff format argument since every team has to play by the same rules and the argument falls completely flat when a guy like bruce bochy can win three championships in five years with mediocre SF teams, and then win another when he switches to another team and while nothing is guaranteed, i would bet that he would have gotten more out of the dodgers the past several years than roberts 3. i don't disagree with the players failing in the post but it absolutely is the manager's responsibility to have his players prepared and motivated -- and not just in the postseason, but every day some will argue that roberts is a nice guy and a players' manager to me that translates to someone who wants to be everybody's friend and is afraid/unable to discipline when necessary and why does mookie get to tell him where he wants to play? the team would be much better with him in right and rojas (who has been raking) at short i have no beef with you and as others have stated, i hope you decide to stick around it's okay to disagree and i would rather be 100% wrong about what i just typed if it meant a championship peace
There should be a standardized test (preferably culturally biased to favor whites) to determine whether someone is eligible to be a big league manager.
As much as Scarecrow oft demonstrates his ineptitude in GRAN MAL effups, it's his ongoing roster decisions, lineup juggles, & bullpen mismanagement that has defined his poverty of quality. The guy never was manager material ... he was just an affirmative action hire. That's all he's ever been.
fwiw… Blake Harris@BlakeHHarris Here is where Mookie Betts ranks among 24 qualified shortstops -7 Outs Above Average (24th) -3.2 Defensive Runs Above Average (24th) -5 Fielding Run Value (24th) -3.6 Ultimate Zone Rating (23rd) 8 throwing errors (T-most) 2 defensive runs saved (10th) 1:03 PM · Jun 11, 2024 · 77.1K Views
The Dodgers are a mess when you consider how much money they've spent. Playing musical chairs to create the illusion that there are more than 3 good players on the field. Over of 162 games, the cummulative production of the roster will easily win 90+ games but when the post season comes around, the Dodgers are going to get smoked.
Besides the obvious three, and omitting the pitching, I think that Smith and T. Hernandez are " good" players. Of course, it all depends on your definition of "good". Muncy is incapacitated with a rare tropical disease, I guess. Pray for a cure. The rest of the team are rookies with promise. and players who are sort of grandfathered in, or are usable in multiple positions. The Dodger Way. I think we will collapse like we mostly always do, same as you do, but there are some others who have helped. And actually, if you are using the phrase "on the field", then are you counting Mookie at ss ? He is dynamic AB, but at ss...not really so good. And if they get a ss ( unlikely), what will be then?
"On the field" excludes Ohtani (DH). Meaning the 3 good players are Betts, Freeman, and Smith. I didn't realize T. Hernandez was playing so well. We can add him to make it 4, but still... The 2017-2021 lineups seemed stacked with great depth. This team looks pretty top heavy
This is another one of those things that goes to my point in the other thread about feeling like this front office/Dave have no idea what they are doing. Everyone within MLB has known for a while now that this little experiment is not working. It has long been time for us to admit this didn't work out and move him back to 2B or RF. However...the Dodgers appear to be the last ones to realize this isn't working. What's funny is I'm about 100% sure the club ALREADY knows they will move him off of SS and admit it didn't work out, but we'll definitely keep running him out there for another month to cost us more runs in the meantime. Also, the fact that Rojas has had about the same amount of starts at 2B this years as he has at SS is a LITERAL crime and is a fireable offense, IMO. I have to imagine Dave is the one making this call but I don't even know anymore.
its like giving the keys to the Ferrari to a guy that drives it into the wall over and over if dave is allowed to make that decision or any others for that matter
while we’re at it, when is roberts/the FO going to realize that grove is not an effective starter? being down 2-0 before you even get back to the dugout is far from ideal — especially for a team that can score 10+ runs one night, and then struggle to score the rest of the week don’t care that he was just the opener, the guy sucks ass as a starter really shouldn’t be that difficult to see
Lots of Scarecrow apologists already excusing him because of these two injuries. X & Instagram both busy trying to explain away this mook's ineptitude... What say I of these people?
So Kershaw gets a week off due to soreness.... queue Dave "NOT Marcus Effimg Welby" Roberts with this Mensa diagnosis ... “A week is not long enough to worry about cutting into the buildup that he's already had,” Roberts said. “But I think it's a way to kind of get us back to get the soreness out, so that's the main thing.” https://www.thescore.com/mlb/news/2931132 No shit, Scarecrow. Next ... teach us about string theory & black holes too.
"They're clearly a better team than we are right now. We really didn't do much well this series. Starting pitching, defense, we had a mistake tonight on the bases. Situational hitting, getting hits—all that kind of stuff, we were outplayed. It's certainly ... I know where we're at right now." — Dave Roberts, after getting swept by the Phillies roberts is 100% right about all the shortcomings he mentioned so who’s responsible for those type of colossal failures again, and why are they still employed?
Just my tuppence or 11¢, but I think it's been that way for a loooong time. I remember looking at games well in the past ( before MLB TV), and the Dodgers getting their asses kicked or blowing an important game, and the roar from the crowd was a fucking Wave. Over and over. Or bouncing beach ball joy and fun. At least in Ebetts Field they threw people out of the upper deck. Y' know...real baseball fans.
