Adrian is a good example... He could be back but in a different form, and it will be hard to distinguish if any sort of decline is mostly due to surgery or just because players decline Adrian struggled (in his sense of the word) after surgery, but kemp was on a whole nother level of bad post surgery. He should be better than that, hopefully he adjusts. Just sucks that his power and speed (cause of hammy) are both hurting at same time, because then idk what he is It's hard to tell what happens with him, but I bet he at least is a productive player next year. This year hopefully he starts to turn it around and realizes he needs to adjust
Adrian's declined since the surgery, but I don't know if it can all be attributed to the surgery or just normal player decline. But he is a lesser hitter since it happened, which gets me sad about Kemp. But maybe, if kemp can figure out to use his legs effectively without going on the DL, then his speed can makeup for the loss in power
I've said this before but a friend of mine who played college football had shoulder surgery several years ago and he says it still doesn't feel as strong as it used to. He works out 5 times a week still. Shoulder surgery might just be a death sentence for a certain amount of power.
Kemp is still crushing balls in BP though, and the HRs he hit this year were not cheap at all. Something that does make sense is Ford's ideaology that Kemp has lost bat speed and it is fucking with his mental game. Either way, Kemp needs to swing at strikes and lay off bad pitches. That adjustment turns him from doing what he was doing this year into an MVP candidate.
Anyways, there is so much wrong with him. Pitch recognition, discipline, physical problems Until he can hit the ball with backspin and authority to RCF I'm scared. THAT'S WHAT MAKES HIM AMAZING! THE HRs TO RF! Launching HRs and booming doubles into the opposite field is his game. If he can't do it we should be sobbing because he'll be rendered worthless.
Is there a stat that measures bat speed? If not then WTF are you waiting for VRP, this could be your big break. I would love to know the average bat speed of players.
Listen new guy, you just need to relax and sip on a juice box. I have a few sources that say he was looking good in BP in ALBQ while all you've heard is Vassegh say "there's been some frustrating faces". That HR he hit off Gallardo was a bomb, and the one off Harvey was oppo at Citi Field. Kemp needs better pitch recognition and it'll work itself out from there.
That's right the Gallardo ball was a bomb. He guessed right on a pitch and got good wood on it (calm down ) But his "oppo bomb"...he didn't hit it with much authority. I think his natural brute strength is in tact. I just don't know where the balanced inside out swing went.
lol Credit for what? I'd love to give him credit. But his swings aren't encouraging. His 14 game hit streak were all top spin singles to LF. Out of pure probability and raw talent he ran into a couple. But he's been dismal. Until the best inside out power stroke in baseball resurfaces it will be a struggle for him
Maybe if he washes that dirt off the shoulder of his uniform it might help. Cleanliness is next to Godliness.
