if Kasten made the decision to call Urias up as a starter right now..THAT would be weird. but the fact remains that he's our very best left handed arm in the minors and we have a need for a left handed reliever right now, not a left handed starter. and in that role, IMO, Urias would be fine. he's only pitched 3 to 4 innings per appearance anyway + everybody knows he's a future starter, so there wouldn't be a lot of pressure on him as a reliever. he could just come up and let his stuff play for an inning, maybe 2. in fact, there would be more pressure on hitters to not look bad against an 18 year old. all of the scouts say he can get outs in the show right now.
true enough. still doesn't change the fact that the Dodgers need new life right now though and they'd better do something to counter what's happening. they've been playing .500 ball over the last 20 games, the best everyday player is struggling, the 2nd and 3rd best starters are scuffling, the bullpen's a mystery/mockery, Ethier's utter GARBAGE, etc. they need a boost.
Kevin Correia....why did we trade for this guy again? Im sure Zach Lee could do much of the same and he didnt cost us anything in a trade. Frias rocked them to sleep and is considered a long guy yet he pitched only 1 inning?! And I agree with Zoo....our best hitter based on average is hitting lower than everyone but the catcher and pitcher, both of which are hitting below .200. I am by no means a major league manager or even close to it but when there are decisions that are made almost on a nightly basis that have me scratching my head theres something wrong there. If it works then great but it doesnt work a lot more than it does. I think we can all agree the main reason we are 1-80 or whatever it is now after the 7th is pointed directly at our manager.
only thing i can think of, in terms of the reason Turner's hitting so low in the lineup, is maybe they were tryin to protect bum ass Ethier with a hot hitter or get Turner on base for when the lineup flips over. that's all i can come up with when it comes to the short term lineup decision. but as far as the long term..we know Turner's not gonna be at the top of the lineup if we're fortunate enough to make the playoffs, so if they're looking long term then i could understand it if they're tryin to get some consistency/comfortability for this last month ( or two).
wonder if VMart can still get down and catch 100 games..that'd open up the market and give us a potential option @ catcher this winter..i mean other than Martin. it's been a couple years since Martinez has caught that many games, but maybe he's fresh enough to give us around 270 regular season games behind the plate..
what do you call a situation where a team's on a 4 game winning streak, 10-5 in their last 15 games and 3.5 games back of a team that's been playing .500 ball over the same stretch?
from this " news flash ", the point i take away is that a lot of divisions are up for grabs..including ours.
LASports96 has been on that same bullshit all year. he's not gonna take the Giants seriously until we're 1 game back of them going into the 2nd 3-game series vs. them next month. hell, maybe not even then.
yep, I'm still on some bullshit... yet I told you when we were 9 games out we'd still be fine and here we are... still fine whatever dude
did you just compare this current 1 month/down the stretch situation to an early season 9 game lead/pace that the Giants couldn't keep up? ridiculous. if we were " fine ", why pick up Hernandez and Correia? why go hunting for Andrew Miller and other bullpen arms? look, i could see if Greinke were dealing right now and Ryu were at the top of his game..that along with Kershaw coming back was the biggest reason that i didn't freak out early on. hell, i might even overlook Puig's struggles if that were the case. but right now..the way the Giants have played of late + Greinke's struggles, Ryu's absence and need to regain form AND Puig struggling..yea, we're in a race here. i'm not even considering Hanley anymore..too inconsistent and unhealthy for me to put my hopes in him. i guess i'm done considering the bullpen comin around as well since our front office let the cheapskate Orioles outbid them for Andrew Miller. however, i will consider our lame duck coaching staff..they suck and the Giants' coaching staff doesn't. but yea, we have 6 games left with a hot Giants squad and the Dodgers are currently playing like a .500 club. right now, Kershaw and Adrian are the only people i trust in a LAD uniform.
