Definitely a chance. Remember, this is the same FO that was in on Jon Lester before knowing of Greinke's intentions in regards to his option after this season.

Granted, if Greinke doesn't opt out he'll be 4 or 5M cheaper on the AAV, but if he does they could tack on that amount to his AAV without much of a problem. They spend double that amount on guys like Brett Anderson and Pablo Fernandez, so they should be willing to hand at least that to Greinke...possibly even tack on an additional year that runs him through his age 35 season.

If they hand Price a 6yr deal after this season the deal would run him through his age 35 season. If you're willing to go to age 35 with Price, you're willing to go to age 35 with Greinke.

I wonder if we are still "in the lead" for anyone? Is it like a race with those stupid presidents down in DC at the Nat games? Or the hacks have "a feeling" , so we hang on every word of it?
I hope we edge out the Rangers at the wire...I wonder who we get if we place? Seems like we have placed quite a bit in recent history...and we wound up with...uh...Beachy and Frias and Whoever from OKC.
Appears we need to actually win one. Being the financial powerhouse in the game and all that.

I get what you're saying, but just because we have money doesn't mean we should spend it.

Frias and Beachy should of never been up w the big club. Injuries have devastated our rotation to the point I thought we'd be damn near .500... remarkably they are doing well despite this rotation being put together with bubble gum and gaffer tape.

True...can't dispute our overall position considering all the elements in play.
But the shit has hit the fan now, and we need viable reinforcements...we need to do this...whatever this is.

Not resigning the CY Young winner would be assinine.

    Grainkey
    Price
    Ryu
    Scrub

    Not bad

Wonder how badly the Padres want to shed payroll and if the Dodgers helping them out lands them a solid player at a cheaper rate.

Like, taking on Gyorko's salary in a deal for Kimbrel/Cashner and the prospect part isn't heavy

Give them some prospect that Logan loves or something

Some team might want him at a cheap price or weirdest case, you option him and have him in the minors.

Just a thought, since money has been the Dodgers best asset, it's a way to not use as many prospects.

If they have to go 6 or 7 years at upwards of $30M per on either guy, I am inclined to believe that they will do it for the 30 year old, not the 32 year old. I doubt both is an option.

Would be cool if that happened and Gyorko regained 2013 form.

Signing two guys in the offseason being very hard is why I really want Hamels. His contract isn't small but it's much more reasonable in years and dollars and could still allow for another good to great pitcher to be signed in the offseason.

    There's a much better chance of CK-Greinke/Price/Cueto-Hamels then CK+two of Greinke/price/cueto

I agree. Getting Hamels could also allow them to go the cheaper route, like Samardzija, who along with Ryu should make a nice 3/4 combo.

It would be hard. Which is why the Dodgers need to get Price and also get a 48 hour window to offer him whatever he is worth so they'll only have to worry about Zack in the off-season.

I've been reading increasingly negative things about the state of Ryu's shoulder. This is coming mostly from the foreign press and second hand, but essentially they're saying this was more extensive surgery than first thought. His ability to come out of this the same pitcher is in doubt.

If any of this is remotely true, then this off-season, retaining Grienke and getting a new SP rotation player is going to be really important.

I don't think we can put our eggs in one basket with Ryu as the third starter if we lose Greinke and assuming we do get Hamels with the remainder of his deal.

If we get a rental and lose Grienke, this becomes an imperative to get SP in the off season.

It matters because we have to keep things realistic, the spending will slow down eventually.

Ethier for Wilson, DeLeon, Sweeney, and Verdugo for Price.

    Rotation becomes:

    CK
    Greinke
    Price
    Wilson
    Anderson

Go get a GREAT middle/late inning reliever and call it a day.
