Davis is fine. Tracks the ball pretty well and stays out of the way. Orel is a good analyst in all phases of the game, but is becoming more of a homer every day.
I listen to other broadcasts now and then, and the "we" and "us" references appear to be common now for all the local broadcasts. I don't know if it's just not taken as seriously as it once was, or if it's encouraged. The industry has changed over the last 50 years, maybe market research shows that local-broadcast listeners are 90% + fans of one side, so it's ok? I really don't mind it too much, but having listened to Vin Scully my whole life it definitely sticks out.
don't mind it as much pre/post-game but i fucken hate it on game broadcasts vinny never did it nor did jerry, ross, steiner or monday and nomar's incessant lust for overexplaining the painfully obvious makes me want to punch the tv
I think most fans across the country prefer homers, especially in college sports. After listening to professionals like Vin, Chick, Bob Miller and Dick Enberg my entire life, I can't stand homers.
I rip the hell out of Steiner for his misleading radio calls but I prefer him to Joe Davis on television. Davis' voice is generic and rhythmic. All of his sentences sound the same. He holds the last word of his sentence every time. Robotic almost. A shame, because he's smart. Sometimes when he's talking during down time in the game, his voice really annoys me actually. He will get the full time job most likely because of his youth. But honestly Steiner is a better listen and he has actually made some epic calls in his career. Vin to Charlie would be less jarring than Vin to Davis imo. As far as commentators go, Nomar offers nothing. Just says the obvious. Orel is insightful but becoming too much of a homer. I don't think a 3 man booth is necessary. Steiner play by play for home games with Eric Karros as commentator if you can get him would be good.
I'm a Dodger fan, and so are they. I far prefer pointing out what a fucking cheat the umpire is than simply ignoring he fact that the previous pitch was straight down the middle and didn't get called. I'm over that impartial shit. Root root root for the Dodgers. In saying that, no diss to Vin. I just enjoy the other side of the coin too.
Imo, Steiner has the better bb voice by a mile. There's character in it, and it's what great franchise should have...someone that sounds distinctive. Nothing on Davis, but he is as bland as white bread. Not even toasted. The message machine guy. The homer thing, imo, is way outta line with the hatred...lol. It's not that bad...like Skip Caray was. Maybe a little home cookin can change these losers into something been missing like forever.
score SF 0 NYY 1 in the 4th...75 pitches for the filthy rasta booger eater already. Dangerously hot in NY 98°' ; feels like 105°...he has long sleeves on.
Did the game start early? I thought it started at 4:15. I turned it on at 4:17 and there were 2 outs in the top of the 1st..??? Eh, typical
