I know everyone will hate this, but the more I look at everyone's predictions, the more I think Kiké gets the last spot on the roster.
He's a lock IMO. he's made every possible start when a lefty starter is on the mound and the alternatives aren't slam dunks as better
i know ill sound a bit annoyingly optimistic but thats why it was pretty damn necessary for him to come into the game today and I'm not mad they lost cause of him. It's probably best to go with someone else Although I did think BMac would be the best choice for a traditional #4 starter if Urias isn't available but they might go with a bullpen type game with Urias leading the way
soething to consider mehcarthy has been a starter exclusively since 2007 starting games totally different than relieving the way you warm up especially he sucked balls tonight but that doesn't (necessarily) mean he'd be a bad choice as the #4
Yup, I just think they're looking for players who can be flexible as a reliever AND starter because by the time Game 4 comes around, who knows what they're even looking for at that point... Which is why Urias/Stripling have kinda passed the test of being good in both roles.
that's a very good point and if (for whatever reason) we decide to have kersh come back in game 4 then having mehcarthy on the roster would essentially be pointless whereas stripling/julio would be fine either way mehcarthy was given a chance tonight to show versatility and he failed
Well he's not named Kike so let's hope so though I fear Doc was impressed with the lonely RBI hit tonight and he does own MadBum
Yup exactly, that's my thinking. Not only do you need to prepare for scenario Kershaw starts game 4, but what if something crazy happens in Games 1-3 and you need that extra reliever. You have to make the most out of every roster spot
I know it's me probably just arguing semantics, but the playoff roster is gonna be decided with like 20 people, not just Roberts. It'll be the whole front office including Friedman, Zaidi and the Assistant GM's, some of their top scouts, maybe some analytical team members, and then the coaches including Dave, Ward and Honeycutt
Yep, the staff has to be prepared for anything, even in games 1-3. Personally, I hope Kershaw doesn't pitch game 4, I'd rather see that as a bullpen game if we can do it. The advantage of Kershaw pitching game 4 is that your #2 gets an extra start, and I don't think our #2 warrante that this year. I'd much rather cross my fingers in game 4 and have Kershaw at full strength in game 5, than pitch Kershaw on short rest in game 4 and cross my blistered fingers in game 5.
I think if Game 4 is an elimination game for the Dodgers, they're not gonna want to end their season without Kershaw on the mound
