When he got elected it was basically about him being black.

 

Yeah, that's the cult of personality thing I mentioned at the end. He was also pretty clear about his desire to involve the gov't in people's lives from the get go. Cant speak for anyone else, but that was my issue with him.

Of course most people that are politically correct would never say anything like that.
But i heard tons of older people or dudes i met on the job at the time talking about that nigger president.
We are talking about when he got elected and there was nothing to judge him on other than the fact he was black.
As the years passed by those people became less vocal because this country has become more and more politically correct.
And those comments just dont fly very much. Its basically illegal culturally to speak like that.
Before Obama you could make porch monkey jokes in a construction job setting or with a bunch of white blue collar guys.
Not all would be racists or be ok with it or even talk themselves like that but nobody would make a stink about it.
Now one of your coworkers would call HR and you would be fired.
Before maybe someone would say 'dude, thats not cool' but maybe still laugh at the joke.
I was almost fired from a job when I was talking with my supervisor about how women should not be president.
My supervisor actually agreed that the premise I had built was well reasoned but that you couldnt outlaw women from the presidency (I agreed with that) but someone walked by and overheard us and sent a complaint to HR.
I was told that I could be fired for my hate speech against women. I was like WTF?
But I was defiant and even made a jew joke to my supervisors boss who was jewish. I wasnt fired.

 

But were you going around saying "he is not my president"?
I didnt. Neither did I say that about Bush.
Its a meaningless statement.
He IS your president. Just like Hillary would have been president.
Reality is something everyone has to deal with.

 

Yeah...I take the not my president as a figure of speech thing. They're all your president whether you like it or not.

In my mind, none of them are my president. I don't want a government and I choose not to participate in selecting my slave master. But I acknowledge that I'm stuck with them.

I actually agree with BZ. It's dangerous because a bunch of these terms (racist for one) gets so overused that it's meaningless. Someday a real racist might come to power and start slaughtering some race because of all the wolf crying.

On the micro level, it also makes it sort of OK to be a real racist. Since everything is a microagression or racist, the real dangerous behavior gets normalized.

I said that i know many people who when Obama took office called him a nigger president. The porch monkey in chief. And not their president because he wasnt american but a kenyan muslim.
This is not opinion but fact. I heard these things. But check out the demographics of where i live. I never see a black person in my zip code.

No one is saying that some of the dislike wasn't racist. What is being said is that there were plenty of other reasons to dislike him.
Saying that ALL of it was racist is lazy and dangerous (see above post).

It could be racist...and probably is. But if he lied about his origin and his religious beliefs (I never believed he did about where he was born and don't really care if he was a muslim or not), that's relevant and not racist.
See this is an example of the problem, you can't even question that without it being racist.
