The expectation now is that the Dodgers are going to turn around and trade one of their controllable OF'ers for relief help and tax room. I actually would not be shocked if they tried to nab a couple prospects to replenish the farm after the MM deal. A team on the cusp (i.e. Angels/A's/Mariners) could be interesting targets for such a move.

From Pedro Moura's chat this morning over at The Athletic
    - The Dodgers have targeted high-end reliever to pair with Jansen
    - From what he is hearing, neither the FO or Kershaw are eyeing a potential split at seasons end.
    - The team is not in the market for SP since nobody that is rumored to be available is an upgrade to the post season rotation.
    - The OF'er they are most likely to try to move is Puig, but Pederson is also in the equation. Puig's repeated mid-June injuries has once again muddied the trade waters for him and the team is not going to just give these guys away.
    - The team is very focused on staying under the tax(duh)
    - There is some possibility that Machado was brought in with an eye on him being the future SS and Seager moving to 1B.

And Machado is absolutely a better buy than Stanton. Younger and just better. Obviously, it'll be great if he stays long term, but as a pro-Stanton/Dodgers guy since before he even signed his current contract..Machado is better. Can make the argument that Machado is better than Harper as well and I've definitely been pro-Harper/Dodgers. Good stuff, nerds. LAD needed a score, not just because of the NL looking lousy, but the Rams and Lakers have been crazy active. Had to answer.

Now go get that guy that can potentially compete with Jansen. Probably not going to find anybody to move Kershaw to #2, so just stuck there, likely.

Seager to 1B I don't understand. I get his elbow needs to recover, but it seems like once he goes to 1B there's no turning back. He was a decent enough SS so to not even explore 2B where his bat would play up seems odd.

Puig with his perfectly timed injuries every year. Lol They should give it one more run with him, see if Machado's greatness can rub off on him [no homo]. If Machado can bring Puig out of platoon world, that'd be pretty nice.

That said, I'd rather keep Fat Joc

Pitchers recover fully (and sometimes stronger) from TJ surgery routinely these days. No reason to think Seager won't do the same.

I feel like they aren't gonna go around and trade an OF now, maybe if they re-sign Machado, go for it, but now seems to like baseless speculation

Never ever assume that a guy will return to form after TJ and the recovery time to full arm strength is 15 months. Carl Crawford's arm was never all that great, but after his TJ surgery, he was the second coming of Juan Pierre. What made Seager the great SS that he was, was an arm with easy velocity to make up for slower movement in other categories. If he doesn't have that anymore, he is a really bad option for the left side of the diamond. 1B for a year would allow him to get back to full strength and the team can get a year closer to Turner's free agency. 1B is not a death sentence by any means and could be the best way for him to build up arm strength while still having his bat in the lineup.

They don't have to, but they could to land that relief help. No baseless speculation there, that they need relief help.
I'd keep Joc regardless..the .880 career postseason OPS plays. And I'd keep Puig for now as well to see if Machado can keep his eyes on the prize at least in the short term

And it's not like 2B wouldn't put him in any spots where he has to ramp it up and make tough throws. Deep in the hole [no homo], turning 2 with guys coming at you, etc. Times where he could end up falling to the ground and having to catch himself. A lot can go in the middle of the field. He'd definitely be safer at 1B, at least for the short term. Then maybe flip he and Turner a year later
