Donnie should have taken him out. Granted, it's not the best situation because if our bullpen, but kersh didn't have it that inning.

    lots of great posts
how random and coincidental that chris and laker8 hooked up? (no homo... probably)
    tough loss for sure
if puig hits a walk off instead of striking out to end the game, we're probably calling it one of the greatest games in dodger history
instead it's one of our more crushing defeats
i totally understand not wanting to watch today's game -- can't say i don't feel that way myself
but i'm going to watch -- i have to watch... i have too much vested in this team for the last 40+ years not to watch
and since '88 its all been heartbreaking, over and over
but. that said... i can't turn away, i refuse to turn away
no matter how bad our gm's, managers, players, owners have been or happen to be... it's MY team, OUR team
it's not even one bad game, it's one bad inning
and i agree with bums, this is on mattingly
i don't care if cy young himself were pitching, when you're done you're done
like grady little with pedro, DBB needed to step in and take the ball
personally i would have done it after back-to-back singles to start the inning
after two uncharacteristic solo HR's, the writing was on the wall... kersh wasn't 100% right
and it's the manager's job to realize/recognize this
kersh is a gamer and he's not going to want to come out of any situation
it's mattingly's job to make the decision for him, for the team
that is what he's being paid to do
and, speaking of kersh... if it's true that he wass showing apprehension about taking the ball later in the series, someone needs to step up and bitch slap the fuck out of him (metaphorically)
your team has been behind you since day one, and you're one of the guys others look up to as a leader
i love you kersh, but shame on you for being a fucken puss at the worst possible time
man up and set an example your teammates will be proud of, not question

on the positive (and yes i'm being serious)
    the offense was great
we knocked out (and whether you like him or not) one of the best pitchers in baseball last night -- a guy who (if not for kersh) would be a serious candidate for this year's cy young
overstating the obvious... but if you score 9 runs, you're almost always gonna walk away with a W
give zack 9 runs and/or a 5-6 run lead heading into later innings tonight, and i'll throw money down that we'll prevail

    and one last thing
i don't buy into the stealing signs conspiracy
if they were that good at it, they would have finished 162-0

    meh, venting
win tonight and this is a whole new series
    go dodgers!

I went nuts, too, with the CC pull...but the double switch worked with Dre, he actually got a hit.
It's funny, but all the offensive talk here isn't even a neccessity if CK pitches like any other day. Not a word. We kill.

"That's not an excuse. Me and Barry fought all the time and we went to the World Series. Just because we can't all always get along doesn't mean we shouldn't win. It still shouldn't have affected the way we played."

"If you're going to accept the good times, you have to accept the bad times. This team is good enough to get through this. We'll be all right. I've played many years and I've been through this many times. These things happen."

come on now. Lol they do it pretty well in the regular season too and have a reputation when it comes to that, but you have to admit that you can bear down and apply a gameplan and a higher level of focus when you're not just coming from Phoenix and Detroit and guaranteed to be flying into Colorado and Chicago the next week. the regular season is a never-ending grind with 1 city/team after the next. it's just a different challenge altogether in terms of focus. you get to the playoffs and you have 1 team in front of you to focus on..you can lock in at a higher level and it's win or go home for the rest of the year. but they may not have been stealing signs yesterday..Kersh may have been tipping his pitches. we agree that Mattingly takes a level of blame tho for yesterday..i hang a level on Ellis too because it's job to go out there and get on the same page with Kersh as well, whatever the issue. those three are the guys that i've been lookin at from the start. but i'm done with the blame game.

pretty much agree with everything you said
the point i was trying to make with the 162-0 remark was why didn't they do it earlier in the game?
    meh, who knows...
to me, sign stealing falls under the old "if you're not cheating, you're not trying" adage... and like you said... it's on kersh, mattingly and aj for failing to recognize and correct it

STL didn't have anybody on base until the 7th, my man. their runs came off solo shots. the theory is that they were picking signs up from 2B. Kersh retired 16 in a row after that and before they put him in the stretch. still tho..there's 2 parts to stealing signs..there's 1) stealing the sign and then 2) executing with that information. not saying you're one of them, but there are a lot of people out there that just think just because you steal a sign, it means you're gonna make something positive happen. there a lot of teams that can steal signs well, but the Cards apply the 2nd part at an elite level..they execute. always have.

but again..maybe they didn't steal any signs at all yesterday..maybe it was just Kersh tipping his pitches because one could draw that conclusion as well.

agreed, i'm not even mad at the Cards for doing it. hell, i wish we were better at that.

yea, that's where the sign stealing theory came from..when they finally they got a dude to 2B they went like 5-7 with 8RBIs. gotta give cred to Carpenter tho and everybody knows what pitch #1 is for Kersh every AB anyway. but stolen signs or not, Carpenter is a tough out. he drives me crazy like Pagan does.

    oh wait
we all saw how butt hurt holliday got when kersh drilled him
that must fall under the unwritten "do as i say, not as i do" code
you know... those rules that self-righteous/holier-than-thou/we-know-better-than-you ckunts like you chose to selectively use when they best suit you

    lol, fucken hypocrites

    carpenter is definitely a grinder
dude really battled in that at bat before he homered
and then made a nice play on dee to start the 8th
the proverbial "stone in your shoe" type of player
you love him if he's on you team, and hate him if he's not
