Everything has to go right for this to be an 88 win team, as currently constructed. You cannot place your bet on so many players that are almost good, recovering from injury, just breaking into the league, etc. When even your BEST players are question marks (Puig, Joc, to an extent Turner)...it's just not going to go smoothly. They can grind it out and win the givision on the final day of the season, but it will be ugly.
lol... LOS ANGELES -- The Los Angeles Dodgers' closed-door meeting was brief, but designed to get the club back on track after getting swept in a four-game series by the Miami Marlins. The media was sent into the hallway for about five minutes and about halfway through the meeting a big cheer erupted. A second set of double doors was closed and nothing else was heard. When the doors opened afterward, the room seemed full of life, with one player telling a media member, “You missed it.” Dodgers manager Dave Roberts gave no indications of what got the room to roar, but did touch on the essentials of the meeting. “You just have to get back to the fundamentals and play clean, crisp baseball and play every pitch,” he said. “I think there are signs of that, but it’s sending a message that we’re fine. But let’s get back to the basics.” Roberts called the meeting his way to forget about the recent past and just look forward. He said he was not disappointed with the team’s effort. “Over the course of a season there will be times when you’re not playing well,” Roberts said. “You try not to be too results-driven, but I think that I’m taking a step back from that and I’m looking at that series. Hitting the reset button today was good and I think the guys took the message well and we’re in a good place right now.”
I think dumping Crawford would be a start. Will it make us better? Probably not. But sometimes you gotta cut people loose who don't do anything to help. That weigh the roster down.
this is the worst I've felt about a game all year, oddly enough. Offense completely fucking lifeless. No reason to defend Hatcher anymore. Puig officially in an extended slump. Andre Ethier isn't going to play until like July and he's going to end the year with the highest WAR of any Dodgers outfielder. Only thing keeping me sane is that the rest of the NL West is a fucking shit show. But how can we trust this current bullpen? The offense, not many areas to improve just have to pray the players get better. but man is it ugly.
Way too early, I know...but if for whatever reason the Dodgers fall on hard luck and play poorly (it happens) for a while...they could actually be sellers come July. I'd be fascinated in what they do in that kind of situation
It's SO frustrating (sorry I'm going back through entire game thread). Dude has the potential to have elite on base talent. He has a good approach and can distinguish between balls and strikes. He just fucking whiffs at everything he swings at. Any better contact skills and he's one of the best hitters in the game
