If the Dodgers could acquire one player at the deadline, who would you prefer?

  1. Machado

    43.5%
  2. Front line starter (degrom, thor, et al)

    56.5%

To me getting another outfielder is a low low priority for this team, we have plenty of guys who can hold their own in the major leagues, Toles, Kike, Joc, Taylor and Verdugo at least until the deadline. The priority should be relief. relief and more relief. Keep calling Tampa.

Trade for Archer. Run out a SP of Kershaw/Archer/Hill/Wood/Ryu-Urias. Then move Maeda to the pen and use Alvares as a bullie guy to acclimate him to the bigs.

EDIT - Behuler in the pen to acclimate to the bigs. Alvarez and Verdugo to the Rays for Archer.

Marlins GM has blunt message for any remaining players who want trades
by Chris Cwik | Big League Stew — 6 hours ago

The Miami Marlins have had an … interesting … last couple weeks. The team parted ways with some of its best players. Dee Gordon, Giancarlo Stanton and Marcell Ozuna all left as part of the club’s desire to decrease payroll. There’s still some talent left on the club, but it’s unclear whether those players still want to be in Miami.
    CLOWN.png
Both Christian Yelich and J.T. Realmuto have made it clear they would prefer to be dealt from the Marlins as soon as possible. Yelich made his desire known shortly after Stanton was dealt. Yelich put out his trade request Monday.

Given the talent left around those guys, it’s no surprise they no longer want to be with the team. Unlike Stanton, however, it doesn’t look like they’ll get their way. General manager Michael Hill released a statement Monday afternoon, making it clear the team isn’t happy about players trying to force their way out of Miami.

Hill doesn’t come out and specifically say Realmuto and Yelich will not be dealt, but he expresses displeasure at both players leaking their desire to leave to the media. As he states, the team views them as building blocks, and would prefer to initiate any trade conversation regarding anyone left on the team. In other words, we’ll determine whether you are traded. Not you.

It shouldn’t be a shock both sides feel this way. Yelich and Realmuto know the Marlins don’t plan on contending in the near future, so of course they want to go to a place where things look more optimistic.

On the Marlins side, they still have control over both guys for a number of years. Yelich is signed through at least 2021. Realmuto is under contract through 2020. Depending on how the Marlins draft, it’s conceivable they’ll be good again before both players are ready to leave.

The team could kickstart the rebuild by dealing both guys, though. Given their talent, cost and the years of control left on both players, Yelich and Realmuto could bring back significant prospect hauls.

There are legitimate arguments for both sides. Should the Marlins truly tear everything down in an effort to pick up more prospects, or do they keep some productive players to give the fans something to care about?

You can debate how the team should handle things going forward, but it’s probably not good that they’ve alienated their two best remaining players while they make that decision.

    • "While trading Kemp won’t be easy, if the Dodgers are willing to eat a large portion of his salary and perhaps attach some prospects to him, then they could draw some interest from an American League team who has use for Kemp as a designated hitter."

    go mets go lol
    • The Mets had some interest in Mitch Moreland who re-signed with the Red Sox, but as James Wagner of the New York Times tweets, the New York is now eyeing the addition of another option at the first base position: Adrian Gonzalez. The veteran will be looking to bounce back after a rough, injury-plagued 2017 season, though he could conceivably bring some upside at a very appealing price.

Yelich unhappy with Marlins direction, set to meet with Front Office
by Jeff Todd | MLB Trade Rumors — 5 hours ago

Marlins outfielder Christian Yelich is — rather unsurprisingly — not particularly enthused with the direction the club has taken so far this winter, according to a report from Jerry Crasnick of EPN.com. That said, the 26-year-old has not demanded a trade and is willing to hear out president of baseball operations Michael Hill on the organization’s plans.

Yelich joins catcher J.T. Realmuto as veteran Marlins players who are evidently disappointed by the fact they are bound to an organization that has already dealt away three critical roster pieces this winter. While neither player enjoys no-trade protection, their views are hardly irrelevant for a new ownership group that has not exactly endeared itself to local fans since taking the helm a few months back.

Miami previously shipped out veterans Giancarlo Stanton, Marcell Ozuna, and Dee Gordon, each of whom was a key regular who came with contract rights beyond the 2018 season. Those deals relieved a significant portion of the team’s payroll pressure, though more paring is anticipated.

It was already fair to wonder whether and when Yelich, Realmuto, and others would be put on the block, but the question is now teed up publicly. At the same time, Hill issued a statement (which Crasnick tweets) saying “we will be the ones who initiate” any efforts to trade further veteran players.

Miami’s true plans are still a bit of a mystery. The organization has suggested it would like to attempt to build around some of its remaining established big leaguers, though it’s unclear as yet just how the team proposes to surround them with enough additional talent to create a contending roster in the near future. It’s certainly still possible the club is mostly just hoping to maintain its bargaining position by refusing to acknowledge that certain players are truly available.

Last we heard, multiple organizations were eyeing the talented Yelich. Along with Realmuto, he’s the most valuable trade asset in the organization, with enough outside interest that it seems the Marlins will enjoy a favorable bidding situation even if it’s made clear they are willing to make a move.

    lol padres
    • The San Diego Padres have signed right-hander Jordan Lyles to a one-year contract with a club option for 2019. The 27-year-old Lyles was a combined 1-5 with a 7.75 ERA in 38 games with San Diego and Colorado in 2017, and is 28-48 with a 5.43 ERA lifetime in seven seasons with Houston, the Rockies and the Padres.

    Cubbies after Darvish
Wouldn't mind Arrieta on a 3yr-ish deal for LAD.
Obviously, he's not what he was a couple years ago and doesn't look to be as valuable from a reg-season standpoint, but LAD cruises through the reg-season anyway and that's with and without Kershaw active.
So what LAD seemingly needs right now is a gutsy/big game type that won't bust a nut on entry, preferably a righty, and Arrieta did show that he could still maneuver through tough lineups in big OCT games without blowing up.
Would've preferred Verlander for the next 2 years over Arrieta for 3 or 4yrs, but of course that ship has sailed..literally..Justin Verlander was sailing the world with Upton, laughing on the way to the bank

    Earnest question.

So for the Dodgers, AAV is most important to avoid the tax. For 26-28 other teams, money is most important. Why not sign Darvish 6/120 and give him 30 million this year and then 18 the following 5. You maintain a decently low AAV and create a valuable trade piece next offseason in Darvish at 5/90 in the event you can retain Kershaw/sign Harper or Machado or somebody better.
