Yup. The rumor last week was that some who are around the org think that his whole getting the farm director job was to hang out and wait until they were ready to hand it to him. I guess it wouldn't shock me. Plenty of young managers around MLB are having success. Dave Martinez will probably he line as well...bench coach with the Cubs, Friedman's and Maddon's guy. I'd be surprised if Byrnes hasn't reached out to Black for some kind of role, be it manager or something else.
Which is why I think they may have offered Don an extension. To buffer. Anyways...Buster, Shaikin, Sherman, etc all reporting Kapler is a "serious frontrunner". I don't know how I feel about this.
Dave Martinez a candidate as well. I wonder if speaking fluent Spanish is an attribute the F.O might value.
Wallach is probably the exception because he was never really part of the Mattingly group. If anything, Mattingly took the job that Wallach was lined up for. But if Wallach's former team offers him a manager job he's as good as gone unless we match it.
If Mattingly moves on to Miami it's likely his WS window closes completely. It's also not far-fetched to see us winning the WS next year. If/when that happens it would solidify the Mattingly curse forever.
i would, but i just got a text from john boehner stating that picking on people with spray tans is unconstitutional
He's a great baseball mind. Worked with Sandy and Drysdale in the Dodger system. Worked under Tommy. Managed big names and has a lot of perspective. I think he is receptive to new information as well. So I think he'd be a strong candidate. I don't think they go this way though.
