actually, he's now telling teams that he won't agree to an extension should they trade for him...told both Seattle and ARI that much. insiders are thinking he's trying to flex the same sort of power that Justin Upton had when he told Seattle to buzz off. i think Price is our guy, but i could understand if they say fuck no to including Urias and just either waiting it out for Scherzer or Price in free agency.
i figured. he had several spring training invites, but he's kind of a good fit with our club house, so i get why he chose the Dodgers. lets hope his bat is awake
A group of Dodgers scouts that included GM Ned Colletti attended a private workout for Cuban defector, 26 year old Rusney Castillo. Castillo is viewed as a 4th OF type with a history of time played at 2b and 3B. At only 5'9", Rusney's speed is his greatest asset, however he totes a strong line drive bat that generates plenty of doubles and the occasional HR. His last season in Cuba was poor and he only played 40 games before missing foreign tourney's where he was suspended. So basically he was busted for trying to defect which was also probably a reason for the bad season. Could be an interesting name to watch as he would likely not be ready until mid season at the earliest.
Don't worry guys!..... @keithlaw Heard Figgins told scouts at his last workout that he'd actually try this time. #notkidding
The teams interest in Castillo is... well, interesting in that he is another outfielder on a team that is loaded with OF talent. Like I mentioned, he is going to need some seasoning once he clears and I wonder if the team is looking at him for in case they move one of the big 4 mid season and/or end up moving Joc for a big piece down the road. Not to mention he is also a CF'er. Obviously injuries can change everything, but I get the sneaking suspicion that we could see a good bit of meddling with the roster this season.
Just saw the MLBtv thing on Tanaka. According Bill Shaiken we were not even close at the end. He said that the Dodgers did not think he was worth the money. He mentioned Paul Maholm. I have been a Maholm fan for awhile. I would MUCH rather him than Arroyo. Strangely his splits are exactly opposite Arroyos. Maholm looked poor against Gnats and Pads but made bitches of us and AZ.
Guess I should've read the rest of the thread before I posted virtually the same thing. I follow the Giants closer than any team other than the Boys in Blue, since I live in the Bay Area. It seems every time they're playing Cincy, Arroyo pitches well. Bailey too.
Now that Masahiro Tanaka is off the market, teams that missed out on Japanese righty could try to acquire another ace-level pitcher in the form of David Price. The Price trade rumors had died down as the offseason progressed and there was a growing expectation that Price would be a Ray in 2014, though one Major League executive expects the Rays to reach out to the Dodgers and other teams about Price's availability. "I have no doubt they will revisit that, starting today," the executive tells Bill Shaikin of the Los Angeles Times.
Dodgers GM Ned Colletti and several team scouts attending a private workout with Cuban outfielder Rusney Castillo, Baseball America's Ben Badler reports. Badler profiled Castillo, a right-handed hitting outfielder with experience at second and third base, last month. The 26-year-old may be months away from signing with a team, as he still to go through all of the procedural work required of Cuban players to reach the majors.
That's fair, I'll wear it. I'll say this. I saw Guzman live-he was lackadaisical in the field and couldn't get the ball out of the infield at the plate. It was only one game, so maybe I caught him on a bad day...AA ball. I'll say this as well. How many scouting reports have you seen that say "This guy sucks, fahgeddaboutit"? The minors are full of guys that somebody is high on. Here's the list of Dodger minor league players of the year, you tell me...more busts or more ballers? Los Angeles Dodgers Minor League Player of the Year 1994 - Billy Ashley (Albuquerque Dukes; AAA) 1995 - Adam Riggs (San Bernardino Spirit; A) 1996 - Paul Konerko (San Antonio Missions; AA) 1998 - Adrián Beltré (San Antonio Missions; AA) 1999 - Chin-Feng Chen (San Bernardino Stampede; A) 2000 - Joe Thurston (San Bernardino Stampede; A) 2001 - Ricardo Rodríguez (Vero Beach Dodgers; A) 2002 - Joe Thurston (Las Vegas 51s, AAA) 2003 - Greg Miller (Vero Beach Dodgers; A) 2004 - Joel Guzman (Vero Beach Dodgers; A & Jacksonville Suns; AA) 2005 - Andy LaRoche (Vero Beach Dodgers; A & Jacksonville Suns; AA) 2006 - James Loney (Las Vegas 51s; AAA) 2007 - Delwyn Young (Las Vegas 51s; AAA) 2008 - James McDonald (Jacksonville Suns; AA) 2009 - Trayvon Robinson (Inland Empire 66ers of San Bernardino; A) 2010 - Jerry Sands (Great Lakes Loons; A & Chattanooga Lookouts; AA) 2011 - Scott Van Slyke (Chattanooga Lookouts; AA) 2012 - Joc Pederson (Rancho Cucamonga Quakes; Hi-A) 2013 - Scott Schebler (Rancho Cucamonga Quakes; Hi-A) Kids that win awards sometimes (a lot of times really) don't pan out. Same with scouting reports. I don't care who it is, even Logan White wears the egg custard sometimes. Me picking the list of top 20 would be no more or less successful than picking a card of race horses. The bottom line is some you get right and some you get wrong.
I'll tell you one thing... Dodgers Minor League Player of the Year recognition would give the Madden Curse a run for its money.
