for sure, but it makes sense because they don't need him. unless they just prefer Callaspo over Barney, but the point is DFA'd now or DFA'd later..i think we can assume that this trade was about shedding Uribe and getting some more arms in return. they have enough depth in the infield.
Read an article saying Uribe was wiping his eyes (no confirmation he was crying) in the bowels of the stadium. I just hope Yasiel doesn't cop an attitude because we traded his father essentially. I guess Stultzy was the lynch pin of the deal
i forgot about Austin Barnes..he plays 3B and 2B too, so he's another option if it comes to it. between Turner, Guerrero, Kike, Barney and Barnes they should be able to hold fort at 3B while Olivera prepares. we'll find out about Callaspo soon enough, though. maybe he will have a short stint?? we all figured that this would Uribe's last run with the team..i mean Puig and Uribe were gonna be parting ways soon anyway. it's the same as looking to the winter and predicting that this is Ellis' last go round with Kershaw. but i'm not as worried about Puig losing his buddies as i was before they signed Olivera. Puig said Olivera was kind of a big brother or whatever and Olivera's dad was Puig's hitting coach in Cuba, so they're pretty close as well. looks as if Olivera's gonna play a pretty important role in helping Puig's game mature over the next handful of years.
I guess the only way this trade could truly kill the Dodgers is if Withrow becomes very good and the rest of the guys the Dodgers got become nothing, or if they play Stults a lot and he's trash Even if Uribe does well, it's at a position he wasn't gonna start at, like BM said. Right now he's 3rd on the depth chart and that's not even considering Olivera or Seager, or an emergence from Enrique
i'd like to think that Uribe gets traded even if Olivera's workouts weren't going well..i mean you still have to see what you have in Guerrero because of the money/years committed to him and his performance calls for a shot. and then Turner looks like a guy that can at least share time with Guerrero @ 3B and give the performance they ask of him. and then of course there's Seager who's been playing his share of 3B in the minors and no man is gonna hold him back. i mean Uribe just wasn't performing up to snuff and upgrades are just all over the place..not even just with Olivera.
Even if Withrow becomes very good..does the deal kill the Dodgers if Friedman continues to build what's been a good LAD bullpen? I mean we're talking relievers here. Unless you're gonna tell me that Withrow was the next dominating force/Aroldis Chapman/Kenley Jansen or somethin like that, the bullpen is a rotating door. It's hard to trust BP arms in general..you just keep adding. I'd like to say that no one would complain about Withrow becoming a dominator in ATL if our own bullpen continued to impress, but I can't say that. I just watched every LAD outfielder not named Puig or Crawford come out slugging and there were still people complaining about Kemp and his great start ( which has turned into a ball of shit since). Fans will find a way.
A part I've probably glossed over is that it's not like the two relievers the Dodgers got could also become very good. I've only seen Withrow but that's before tommy john. It's a deal that in the end, I think doesn't really mean much. It looks like a big deal csuse of a big name and six players involved but there's a very limited amount of upside or downside in it all
I don't get it. They really hold Callaspo in high regard or something? Don't get just dumping Uribe and especially Withrow.
So now that they've DFA'd Stults at first seemed weird but maybe they're confident about him clearing and now they have a bad but useable option to start in an emergency, and two wild card relievers in their minors. End of the day, it's not a good return for Uribe and Withrow but I don't know if anything was ever gonna be reasonable considering Uribe might have been 4 weeks away from a DFA or bad situation, and Withrow might never recover? It's the tiniest of values but let's see, Uribe is better then Callaspo but Stults and the two relievers probably more valuable then Withrow? Why am I over analyzing this trade that doesn't mean much, dammit. Need for July to come soon
Honestly, fuck this trade. I'd rather have Juan pissing around and not playing well because he is such a good clubhouse guy. Additionally, I think Withrow had the best upside of all of these pitchers. Fuck this shit. Good thing it's only a minor deal.
