That leaves about $260,000 in flexibility with the cushion, Sborz, Rios and Pfeifer will have to come in well under slot if they want to make Funkhouser a legit offer. The total allotment for those three is $1,626,500.
We get another comp pick next year if Funkhouser doesn't sign, right? (I've heard next years draft is a lot better)
Nope, only get picks for failure to sign in the 1st round, that would be Buehler. However, they could be looking at 3 comp picks for next year (Greinke, Kendrick and Anderson). If Anderson can hold it together for 150 innings or so, no reason not to give him a QO.
Buehler is not protected. Only worst 10 teams picks are protected so typically picks 1-10. 11 this year due to Astros iirc
That pick protection is for free agency, for example, the Red Sox didn't lose their first round pick after sign Sandoval or Ramirez because it was in the top 10. Same for Minnesota signing Ervin Santana. Should Buehler not sign, the Dodgers would get the 25th pick next year.
Sborz threw 4 shutout innings (3H, 2BB and 3Ks) in relief to tie the CWS 1-1, I have to think Buehler is getting the start tomorrow in the deciding game for Vandy as Fulmer and Pfeifer started 1 and 2, Pfeifer went 5 2/3 innings allowing 3 unearned runs, 8H, 6Ks and 1BB.
Okay Dodgers the College WS is over, time to sign Buehler and Sborz and tell Funkhouser and his agent to go funk themselves. (Don' really feel that way but couldn't resist the pun).
