A confidence boost...yes, absolutely. But a stamina boost...IDK. Unless Anderson/Wood turn in unexpected, top-notch pitching, as much as I loathe him to compare, we need Bumgarten type last year post season performances from Zack and CK.
My #1 concern is the offense showing up or not. #3 starter and middle relievers become irrelevant if the Dodgers can't score off the Mets starters. And if the Dodgers do put up solid run totals, I have enough faith that the pitching can limit them. I know the Dodgers have good upside in their offense, but any offense can shut down and we've seen it happen to the Dodgers
that's disappointing yes, they'd be more threatening at the plate than any [three] other outfielders the padres can [now] field but let's not this trio was [arguably] the worst defensive outfield in mlb history i'd almost rather have all three healthy and available almost
The Padres are going to be very interesting to watch this off season. They completely gutted their farm going for it all and fell flat on their faces. Then instead of making some moves at the daedline, they did nothing and probably hurt themselves worse with all the guys that are going to be free agents. Yes they can make QO offers, but there is going to be a significant gap in talent in that franchise to wait for all those picks to come through. Hedges looks like a back up catcher now so they should keep Norris behind the plate. Another move should be Myers to LF, he breaks down too easy and seems like the best place for him or 1B if my next scenario doesn't workout. They will need to do something with Kemp, I think next year is a lost cause already for them. 3 teams are going to be better, the Dodgers, Giants and D'Backs are much better suited for the road ahead. The Padres either need to trade Kemp to the AL or why not see if he can man 1B. He is just not an OF'er anymore and since next year should be a dumpster dive anyway, why not see what they can get from a guy who can still contribute offensively? Otherwise they should look to move him and eat 5+ mil a year to make him somewhat attractive to buyers. They should also explore moving Cashner, Kimbrel, Shields and Benoit to start replenishing their farm system. They are not close to competing, it would be dumb for them to try and fix their cracks with bubblegum next season.
Meh, could you imagine the narrative if Kemp won a game for them that cost the team home field advantage? It was annoying enough the first series of the season when he hit well against us.
I agree with you wholeheartedly...say, if we score say 4/5 runs right away, but the pitching isn't what it should be up front, I have miniscule faith in the BP. Especially Hatcher...he is scary in a Broxtonesque way to me... It's six of one, half dozen of the other.
agreed i think preller proved he is a maverick as far as making wholesale changes now he needs to prove he's capable of making sensible baseball decisions i remember in the offseason after acquiring kemp/myers/upton (but prior to norris) they had one projected starter with a positive dwar yet you had people (including many so-called experts) arguing that the padres were going to contend for the nl west title yeah, how'd that work out? i really didn't understand why they got kimbrel i mean what good is a closer when you're trailing [more often than not] heading into the 9th? lol padres :Tuborg:
I wonder if they may have blocked us there. Not saying that it was their goal to block us, but even though Preller and Hart connected on multiple trades this year, so did the nerds and Hart. If you consider Friedman's approach to building bullpens, probably not, but can't really say for sure. Thinking about it send shivers down the spine, though..Kenley to Kimbrell. I'm sure that when the Pads agreed to take BJ Upton's bum ass in the deal that nothin else need be said or negotiated.
yup, beat me to it... Adam Rubin @AdamRubinESPN 21 minutes ago The Mets-Nationals game on Friday has been rained out. The teams will play a split doubleheader at 1:10 p.m. and 7:10 p.m. on Saturday. Noah Syndergaard has day game. Matt Harvey has night game. 1:06 PM - 2 Oct 2015
My hopes for this series: 1. Yasiel crushes it 2. Gonzalez gets splinters in his ass from all of the pine he'll be riding 3. Grandal wakes up 4. Someone in the BP pitches 2 of the 3 games and looks REALLY good
Today's lineup (and possible Game 1 NLDS lineup?) @truebluela: Dodgers vs. Padres: Crawford LF Kendrick 2B Gonzalez 1B Turner 3B Ethier RF Seager SS Ellis C Hernandez CF Wood P
Ellis and Hernandez starting against a righty might mean Don is leaning with using them as the starters, which can't really argue against given how Joc/Grandal have looked
Playoff lineup. Barring miraculous Puig insertation. I like it. If I had to nitpick maybe Kiké 7th over Ellis but either way...
