Love how people use this at the only reason we won. They mad bruhs. Technically it was legal according to umpire discretion/rule book.
My take on the Chase Utley slide. I'm an older guy that likes old school baseball. I'm all for breaking up a DP and it is totally expected. Chase slid late and it was dirty. I have no idea if he intended to hurt anybody, only Chase knows the truth...but I've seen him do shit like this many times , on the Dodgers and even more so on the Phillies. Even a few times against us as a Phil. Anyone remember when he shitcanned Russel Martin at Home Plate? No Reason for it, just blindsided a catcher stretching for a throw on the 1B line. Earlier this year he was about a yard away from reaching the 2B bag in DP break up slide against the Padres. How many times do you see him "drop the gate" and block a baserunner off the 2B bag on a pick off play? He plays dirty, he risks life and limb to win, that's how he plays. Now after watching the Dodgers get owned in the post season repeatedly by the Phillies and Cardinals playing and pitching dirty, it is refreshing to see that shit the other way. Maybe now WE are the ones that play with a "Fuck YoU- I want to win anyway I can" attitude for once. NO MORE MR. NICEGUY. Maybe this is exactly why Utley is a Dodger. Maybe this is exactly what we need to finally get over the hump! This is what it takes to win this shit. We need a Chase Utley attitude on this team. The nice guy building schools for poor kids attitude isn't made to win post seasons. Kuroda tried to bring it against Victorino and then someone named Billingsly didn't. Remember how Manny Ramirez said something like "I'd like to have Blanton on my team" after he was buzzing and hitting our guys like Manny and Martin? Time to play dirty...we've tried it many many times being nice. It fucking failed.
Hey....just wondering if you would move down Seager to 5th or 6th position. He does not loo, good in the pressure spots. How about Turner at the 4, Agon at 3, Kike at 2, mix and match the rest????
Boy oh boy.... First off what a win. Things looked bleak there for a while but we found a way. Now to the slide.... Was it late? Sure. Was it dirty? Nope. That's good hard baseball. If David wright slid hard into Rollins or Seager that's playoff baseball. A team with their season standing on third base you do whatever you need to do to break up that double play. It's not utleys fault he turned his back on the play. Utleys intention I'm sure was not to hurt him but to make sure he didn't throw that ball to first. I'm sorry tejada got hurt but I'm not sorry of the result. And I doubt had the mets been in that situation David wright would be giving the stink eye to the guy who slid hard into third had his team been the benefit of the similar result. Go hard or go home.
And the narrative is that the Cardinals save MLB from the evil Dodgers syndicate. ...because the Cards have never done anything dirty
I think it was a dirty slide. But again this was legal technically??? All the whining this cost them the game is giving me aids. But yeah fucking who cares we needed that win any means possible.
Noah is such a douche bag too. "Pretty loud tonight but it'll be nothing compared to Mets faithful on Monday" Number one media market in the country and you're like 10th in the league in attendance at best. Your fans suck. I really want the Dodgers to shut that crowd up early and come out swinging.
nice to see we played w some fire tonight seems like we needed that moment that utley just provided all is good in the world and this series just got really interesting...
Diablo gone from the game thread all game.. comes hours after the game ends. Chase Utley has a huge base hit and slide to change the entire game for los Doyers. Conspiracy confirmed. @LAdiablo is Chase Utley!
It was a late slide no doubt but dirty? If the guy is facing Utley then he jumps out of the way and all of this is moot. So if you're of the mind that he intended to injure Tejada then you have to ask WHY him??????? There is no way of all the guys you pick to injure would Tejada be the guy you would choose. I could see if there was a shift on and Wright is covering but come on. Monday will be intriguing but there is no way in hell the Mets retaliate. Matt Harvey is a happy guy though, they won't talk about him missing that workout anymore.
He tried jumping. Utley was already there. No way he intended to injure, but it still wasn't a smart or good slide. The throw from Murphy was garbage and put him in a vulnerable position, too.
That was fun as fuck. I was pretty confused for a good while about the slide. I mean, obviously saw the dude get bowled over but they didn't show a replay at the stadium for a while and not til I got on Twitter that I saw people going ape shit. Annoying that that's all ppl will talk about I guess. I mean it's shitty what happened but, players know this has been the rules forever now, change it if you hate I guess? Anyways, that's just noise to go back and forward on, the facts are its 1-1 and Game 3 is gonna be nerve wrecking. Good thing have an off day to enjoy this win
Him jumping was just instinct, my point was that if he saw him coming he would not have been vulnerable and MAY be hurt but who cares it's Ruben Tejada.
