Well, we do know that he's not a very good in game manager and that most of the real organizations are turning to the younger, brighter minds in the game. Miami might just be all he can come up with..which might have been different 5-10 years ago.
Of course Josh Byrnes has the Buddy Black connection. I suspect we'll see some rumors with him involved
Yeah, Don peacing out after being extended is kinda weird. You'd think he would have taken it, but you might be right. The nerds have something else up and he wasn't down for it. Hopefully, the next guy can control the clubhouse. May not like Donnie, but at the very least he was good at that. He'd be a much better bench coach than an actual manager as the good cop to the managers bad.
Miami is a terrible place for anyone to go. You have to deal with Loria's bullshit and then get fired when they give you shit and you can't turn it into lemonade.
The Nationals have interviewed Dodgers bench coach Tim Wallach, according to Tim Brown of Yahoo Sports (via Twitter). Wallach, 58, spent much of his playing career in the Expos organization. Before taking the job as bench coach, Wallach coached for the Dodgers in other capacities and served as the organization’s Triple-A manager.
Probably didnt get a raise for not getting to the WS. So he will be pickiting with the $15 an hour whiners about the need for livable wages.
I agree, DBB's best attribute was the clubhouse side, but he wasn't even great at that. I wouldn't mind him as a bench coach and think that would be an ideal position for him on a coaching staff.
Dont forget there was a lot of drama after last year so it's quite possible the whole story is BS for them both to save face. He was most likely flat out canned. BZ rejoice.
Don Mattingly Won’t Return As Dodgers Manager, No extension offer 9:54am: There was no formal extension offer, but rather a concept that was discussed in a broader conversation between Mattingly and the club, Bill Shaikin of the Los Angeles Times tweets.
Breaking News via Ken Rosenthal @dodgers have also informed Vin Scully his contract has been terminated...will announce hiring of Brian Kenny and Bill James later this week. #SportsnetLA
Hoohoooooooooooo It's on now. Vin must not be doin so hot, but the FO is cookin today. I can't find that particular update tho.
10:39am: Los Angeles will pay Mattingly the salary he was owed for 2016, Dylan Hernandez of the Los Angeles Times reports on Twitter.
The extension rumor was likely to keep his supporters in the clubhouse happy. ie. Clayton, turner etc. My son is happy. He actually woke me up this morning with the news... I'm a little indifferent at this point. I just want these guys to get it together and stop wasting Kersh years. If this accomplishes that then I'm good.
