I'm chalking Hill's performance as more of a letdown game after his 9 innings of perfection from last week. He is going to have these games from time to time, but other than 3 really bad games this year, he has been pretty good in the rest. He's coming off of a stretch of 11 starts where he had a 2.38 ERA and .591 OPS against. He's been pitching like a #2, he just took one on the mound the other night.
not at all we did that too just to say we did im hardly a coastal elitist but things are mighty different out there in them there states i flew out there w my wife in like 1990 for a visit to some manufacturing company on a different trip she is a very dark skinned lady as you know i seriously never experienced anything so uncomfortable in my life and she was scared
Also, the Dodgers are treating these games like tryouts and the DBacks are treating it like it's the wild card game. Putting Logan in LF just to try him out there? Double switching out Taylor? Using every reliever for an inning to give them work? It's more annoying than anything. But I do hope Seager/Turner are just in a rough patch and it isn't anything serious
But, I'm still kinda pissed they are tweaking a winning formula. At this stage in the season, I'm more for maintaining their rhythm than freaking everyone out by experimenting.
I get you, but the counter to that is: you don't want these players to get stuck into a routine and not have any new challenges. IMO, the reason the team has won a lot and remained focused is that the flexibility of the team creates a ton of competition for playing time. If you're not playing well, guess what, they have multiple players who can play your position. Logan isn't great or anything but if you're gonna struggle offensively then at least being flexible on defense adds value.
We can get swept by the DBacks, I really don't care. We have clearly had the foot off the gas for a month now and we haven't played a meaningful game in at least that much time. That's not to overlook the DBacks in a playoff situation. The DBacks, Nats, Cubs, and even the Rockies with Coors Field are dangerous, but that's precisely why we have our foot off the gas now. That's why we are treating August and September as a second Spring Training (Summer Training?). The only thing really important right now is to stay healthy and rested, and I'm hoping we start ramping back up the final two weeks. Going into October with fresh, April legs will be huge. I figure we need 11 more wins (in the final 31 games) to lock up home field everything. 102 wins. Making a run at 116 was an interesting prospect, but that's something for teams to worry about who aren't in a 30-year WS drought. As far as the DBacks getting pumped at beating us, good for them. They need these wins. In the end they are cheering for a WC spot. If we face them it will likely be with Greinke burned in the WC game, and only able to pitch one game of the NLDS. If they even get to the NLDS, because they could just as easily lose a one-game playoff. But that's the best they can root for. Sad.
Yes he can be the emergency catcher. But that would mean we carry 3 catchers which we could do without. Thanks for the encouragement. But finally, I enjoy ending my posts with 2 lineups. You dont enjoy it?
Everyone has got their individual take on the recent gathering of stool in the bed...and each one as valid as the next. Whether agreed upon by others, is however a different thing entirely. It goes from fan to fan, pessimist as opposed to optimist ( the latter the far superior of the two, ask any glass half full guy), what kind of stat guy you are, blah and more blah...etc. But if you're supposed to sit around, and watch guys go out there and give up six runs a game, or a lineup that just can't come through, while we get punked in every way, including drilling our very important kid in the rib cage, and get all philosophical and blase' about it, then check your pulse. I don't care if we are 130-0, losing four, or one, sucks hard. But obviously, that's just me. I guess I'll just never mature...woulda happened by now, I think. My philosophical, immature take on this present situation...no clever, multi layered, complex reverse psychology planned out top secret NATO crypto game plan going on...we just suck. Top to bottom. Right now.
agree on both of these hill was shit, but since he's coming off (essentially) a no-hitter and an aggregate 2.25 era over his prior 9 starts, i'm willing to write it off as just a bad night but you're right tb, he and wood need to be better totally agree right now, with a big lead, is the time to test out matchups, positional changes, etc gotta do this early enough so guys can get comfortable with it and i think a lot of our perspectives are skewed because we're so (perhaps unreasonably) used to winning every game
The handicap is set again. Greinke is getting about 4 inches on both sides of the plate, we on the other hand have nothing.
I'll never get over when an ump gives an elite pitcher a few inches off the plate and then gives a big fuck you to the guy going on the other side. Fucking garbage.
