He has location issues. He can be shaky, but he hasn't even been closing for a year. He needs more time, but with a bullpen like we have now, it's a sort of baptism by fire. Give him an "out" pitch and by the end of the year, he'll be closing games like a champ.
I can't believe he took that linedrive off the chin and stayed in the game. thought for sure they'd take him out as a precaution
he's pitched a lot this season and last night he got hit in the face. he may have been fine, but his heart had to be going crazier than normal and head must have been a mess that all said, he's a middle reliever. he's only looked at higher than Lindblom for instance, because he has saves. im not saying he's a bad pitcher at all, he's just replaceable. but if they want to keep him closer, i'll give him a few more chances
His performance lately is an aberration he will be fine. Just be glad we have an alternative in Kenley or even Josh.
While I don't agree with labeling a guy a "closer", if we are going to do it why not do it with the guy who sets major league records in strikeouts?
Getting hit in the face had nothing to do with Javy blowing that save the other night. He was getting raked before that (in fact, that's why he got hit in the face). I love the fact that he shook it off like he didn't get hit in the face, but he's not the guy I want to count on in a one-run game.
