So i mentioned that my kid was looking at USF and i needed to go check it out. i did and this really happened. sorry if it easily could have gone in the OTT but i wanted you guys to hear this one. other than the fact that SF gear is fucking everywhere and the streets are full of trans human madness the city is a pretty nice place. been there many times prior to this. got in to town around noon and checked in at fishermans wharf hotel. 2pm tour at the school so we grab something quick to eat and head off. nav gets us there without too much hassle. the upper campus is gorgeous but it is more or less the offices and rooms for sophomore and jesuit priests that run the school. this is where they sit us down for a sales pitch from the director. most schools we've been to don't do an hour speech on the campus and curriculum complete w slide show but thats what we got here. the director was nice and engaging enough that people didn't pass out. i always try to keep eye contact and pay attention at these types of meetings out of respect for the speaker. he asks if anyone knows of a significant event that changed the city in 1906. yes of course the earthquake. no most people make that mistake he tells me. it was actually the fire that caused the most damage. yeah and the fire started because of the earthquake. ok dude. so he's switching screens and talking about how the school is very involved in non profit work and how each student is required to contribute to this approach. great. we all know we need more altruism and my kid is really interested in helping those less fortunate. says she wants to run a non profit one day. sounds like this should be a good fit. then i notice something at the bottom of the page of this directors bullet points. at first i was shocked but then started smiling. i wrote it down so i wouldn't forget how outrageous it was. " we are truly invested in assisting those areas socially and economically marginalized such as los angeles, el salvador, peru, spain etc." WTF? so five minutes later the guy is done and after the other three families walk out i hit the director up. economically marginalized areas such as LA? really thats a joke right? no he says the inner city is pretty bad. i say sure it is. like oakland isn't? why mention LA w third world countries unless its a dig? are you a giants fan or something? now he's walking away saying yeah yeah you have us figured out. i didn't pursue it further because it was so fucking ridiculous. but those fuckers up there clearly think they're better than us. its engrained in everything they do. another thing he said that i found surprising for such a "forward" thinking community was that there is no greek system in SF. any guess as to why? because the laws of the city don't allow groups of more than six women since that could be prostitutes. can't make this shit up. on more than one occasion my kid asked me "what is that?" "is that a woman?" or i would feel her cling up next to me and say "i'm scared". at least there wasn't a gay pride parade.
Their elitism oozes out of every pore. Honestly though if I lived there and was as diehard a giant fan as I am a dodger fan, id probably be unbearable too

People from there are just different. I actually attempted to befriend a guy from there because I thought I was being petty for disliking him. You know the drill. Then, I really started listening when he talked. I realized something. This moron is an idiot. I am not being mean here. I mean he really has no clue about common sense answers to things. He has these grand ideas that have no basis in practicality and would only work if everyone used the power of imagination to solve things. I also realized he is a true believer and whenever I would contradict him, he would get offended. He thought that I was small minded and simply could not grasp the way he and others think. Needless to say, he did not understand when he was let go for terrible classroom management and poor test scores.
All them fuckers are bred from lazy, scared, drug-fried-brained hippies with no work ethic. It's not thier fault...losers breed losers.
What's weird is that many people, not just SF, hate Los Angeles for thinking us as entitled assholes. Many are, but people from SF are the exact same way, but I feel they brag about it a lot more. Like Chris said, their elitism just oozes. My sister and brother-in-law live up there, I remember he and I went to the market to buy some groceries, me in my Dodgers sweater and him in his Patriots sweater (he's from Boston) and the dirty looks we got... wow. Then the cashier was a straight up douchebag to us. Asking us why we were wearing those sweaters? We told him their our favorite teams and he just shook his head and said, "Oh." And we're supposed to be the entitled assholes. San Francisco is such a nice place, but full of smug assholes think they're better than everyone.
^thats pretty much it. and everyone is trying so hard to be unique and stand out. my daughter and i came to the conclusion that like many slick big cities the majority of the people were incredibly lonely trying to act out their "part" in a community of weirdos trying to hard to be noticed.
