1st line very true but Cubs have both in abundance. I really think they have seen enough of Urias to know that he can be left to pitch without restriction next year.

Let's not underestimate the Gnats hitting on winning those World Series. It's not that they were mashers like Toronto is/was or Boston is/was. But they were so clutch...lucky, whatever you want to call it. From Pablo Sandoval, to Marco Scutero, Pagan, Belt....I mean they worked the count, were smart at the plate, and didn't waste at-bats.

Sure they had MadBum, but to varying degrees the rest of their pitching staff was Hudson, Vogelsong, Zito, Peavey, Cain, and you can't even say Lincecum because he was coming out of the pen most of those series.

Right now, we have so many holes, yeah why not get pitching? But we need BP help and a bat....a good smart consistent bat.

I agree that MGT has seen enough to know he can pitch next year in the majors, but that is not it. Physically I don't think his arm is going to be able to handle a jump from say 100 innings this year to 150 next year. They have babied his innings for his entire career......there is no way they will take the reigns off next year so all indications are that we will be in a "Strausberg" situation where he gets shut down at 150 innings next year.

Dee Gordon was reinstated from the suspension list and seems to be without a position. Id love for MGT to bring him back.

improve offense >>>> all other needs. Obviously could use another arm or 5 five and as good as Wade is, I'm not interested in breaking the farm for someone who will pitch one inning every other day or so. Tired of losing by one run in the playoffs. If we don't improve the offense, all other moves will still leave us coming up short imo. hoping dre comes back in september and helps carry the offense isnt good enough

It's been so radio silent, I'm almost thinking nothing is going to happen for the Blue.

Maybe cause I'm bored by inactivity but feel like I'm coming around to the idea of them going for Jay Bruce. There's a lot of good reasons for not getting him, mostly cause he could decline any moment now and his defense is hilariously awful. But I feel like we have lots of guys who give good overall value for what they are but need someone who just hits the fuck out of the ball. His defense is so bad though.

    Dee back today.
Is it true that he's ineligible to participate in the playoffs?

I could see them considering it, much of their focus defensively has been on 2B/SS/CF and just being very strong up the middle.
Howie's such a solid ballplayer, he's proven capable of adjusting, wouldn't put a switch to RF past him.
It'd suck to disrupt what he's doing in LF, but his strengths in LF all have to do with him coming in on the ball with good hands/transfer and a solid arm to back it up, basically what teams normally like in their RF.
    Hide Bruce in LF.

I just picked the Cubs because they have the best record. I never underestimate the gnats in an even year until that streak is mercifully ended.

I'm not big on Bruce either because of the D, but as the deadline draws nearer it feels like he might go for cheap. If the price is low I'd love to have him over SVS, but it's not a move I would consider huge.
