    Think about it
GG 'brains' finally noticed that a 36 year old career .239 hitter was a brighter option than Joc, a career .203 hitter

you guys have to agree that Granderson is, today, absolutely an upgrade.
ignoring his atrocious start, which we cannot because we're not excusing Joc's start, still Granderson recent AB's is hitting .273 and Top 10 in OPS. Whice does means am upgrade. With 17 dings already. With playoff seasoning. Smart. Grandy playing ~.270 with power and D is a fine thing...

however Grandy hitting a pathetic .230 is Not for our future. If Joc can't outperform that level then he was a mistake in the first place.

my dear friend, you're always thinking with the wrong head , and waaaaay off topic but... anytime one gets blowjobs life is grand. But of course. Of course. Of course.

However Joc's problems have nothing to do with getting BJ's. Just saying. Nothing.

besides anyone that somehow 'forgets' how good BJ's are must be married and therefore cannot be blamed.

    its in the rulebook

I understand why batting average is being phased out as a go-to stat. There are far better ways to measure offensive value. And with the random variance of the batted ball, it's hard to truly measure. But I can't completely dismiss it, either. There's value in hitting for average. It is why Justin Turner in Corey Seager are clearly the two best hitters on this team. Granted, they also have on-base percentages near .400 and are slugging over .500 too. But their bat control and ability to hit in volume makes them the most irreplaceable pieces to this offense.

As bright as the guys over at Dodgers Digest are, they "lol" at batting average in their otherwise good write ups. Obviously there are players in the league who carry a hollow .300, and other players who produce far greater value somewhere around .250. But that doesn't make BA useless.

Game on the line, give me Turner. Let guys like Grandal, Puig (to a lesser extent), and Joc accumulate their value over the course of 162 with their power, eye, and defense. My confidence in October will be in Justin, Corey, Taylor, etc. In any sample size, they're flat out good hitters.

Yeah I agree on many faces about the narrow view of BA as a measure of a player.

Far better IMO is RISP because it's all about hitting when it matters. There are other stats in this theme.
I also prefer OBP because you're not scoring if you're not on base, however you got there. Grandy is a career .340 OBP which is very good.
I also prefer OPS because extra bases matter.
I also agree that RBI is a highly opportunistic stat.. or is it? Players with high RISP tend to drive in runs thus RBI's so RISP still seems more relevent

Note about Turner, in advanced hitting stats, he drives in the runner on 3B 73% of the time this season!!

    <<Correction/clarification>>
Turner, in 2017, drives in the runner from 3B 60% of the time, he advances the runner on any base 73% of the time
    Career he's a stellar 62%; 58%
    By reference
Granderson 2017 drives from 3B 28%; overall 44% (very very un 'clutch'), career he's far below average 45%; 57%

Utley by contrast is a career 3B 69%; 58% (24% points better than Grandy is HUGE)
    Gonzo is 59% / 60%
    Seager 58% / 66%
Rookie Bellinger 45% / 88% (50 pts better than Puig at advancing the runner;#smallsamplesize)

    (MLB average is 51% / 53%)
    at the low end...
    Grandal 2017 is 56% / 32%; and career 46%/ 48% (32% this year sucks)
    Puig 2017 is 45% / 38%; career 44% / 45%
    Joc was 38% / 29%; career 43% / 38%
    Forsythe is 65% / 33%; career 49% / 41%

    and FWIW Taylor in 2017 is 38% / 36% and career is 40% / 46%

You should check out the OPP thread. On Pace Percentage is the new stat.

We also use rAVG or Raw Average to produce a pure hitting score based off of plate appearances not at bats. Takes the place of the regular average but has a few other wrinkles. This is a raw/real/base stat for players that are excellent contact hitters. This stat rewards those that can hit for high contact.

Slugging Ratio or SLGr takes the place of regular SLG but more precise because it measure way more than just extra base hits. Minimizes the penalty on strike outs, etc... This stat rewards those who can hit for high power and drive in runs.

Then there is my favorite stat MVPr which takes the most information available concerning who is clutch, best to get on base, to not GIDP, pitch taking, gamesmanship, to sacrifice, run creation, run production, bunt the guy over, to steal efficiently and often or now when/how to best run the bases, best team helper, amount of fielders legs broken when sliding to 2B, RISP, grand slams, walk offs, arm, glove, defence, etc.... This stat rewards those who do whatever is necessary to produce runs, momentum, and wins. It replaces OBP by expanding it in ways that turn it into the auxiliary/intangible/leadership stat.

    RAVG measures your skill.
    SLGR measures your power.
    MVPR measures your heart.

Combine Skill, Power, and Heart and you have the equivalent of OPS but much more informative as to the value of the player. That is your CPR, current player rating. You compare that with your OPP, on pace percentage to see if you are meeting or exceeding expectations.

I had coffee late on sunday
Had a heart pill around the same time.
Then a couple of nice cookies with some hemp milk.
Topped off with some blue dream.

The coffee made the heart pill, the brownies, and the blue dream pretty ineffective in terms of helping me sleep.
I was 100% alert but perfectly tranquil filled with deep energy reserves. Felt great.
I was able to get a ton of work done.

Real milk comes from humans and animals, not from plants.

That stuff is just water flavored with almonds, vanilla, hemp, et al.

True, if we are talking marketing for the US Dairy Council.
Poetically milk has a broader meaning.
Ponder upon that thought the next time you milk one out.
