I just finished making my first BLM sign for a local protest. Do I consider myself a hero? I mean... sure, if you want to call me a hero, maybe I am. #whatmatters2020
You’re referring to framing, and it’s been around forever and especially in politics. If you think the left is good at it, you should see the right. The right has turned framing into an art (and I know there’s some framing going on it in that statement). Your right-descriptions above have some framing terms in them.
You are totally right. But it doesn't really matter. Because these words are just as often used in non political institutions such as education and journalism. Which is the real problem. If an individual wants to use these words, that's fine. But for educators and especially journalists to use these terms is a breach of trust because they are partisan and fake terms. Ironically, illegal alien is the one that concerns me the least but is the best example. There's no such thing as a dreamer or an undocumented immigrant. It's made up. At least a couple of the other ones can hide behind the fact that they are proper nouns. The term dreamer should never come out of the mouth of a journalist. The right surely frames. I focus in on the left because they have a louder voice and because the Democrat party has a longer history of destroying the black community which is pertinent to the topic at hand. Doesn't mean I think individuals who vote for Democrats participate in this, btw. Not everything is about race. It's time for both sides to call a spade a spade and let the people decide what they think.
Yes, many gramdmal seizure patients like this. Too bad they use the frozen yolk to up their yoke. So when they stroke they can go for broke. Yet in the clutch they choke when they toke.
“Illegal alien” is a framed term. “Undocumented immigrant” is probably the most neutral term. Because of the way the laws were written “DREAMer” is actually a technically correct term to use for immigrants who have applied for and received that status. That’s where it can get dicey, how do you refer to laws if their names are literally frames? Affordable Care Act? Patriot Act?
What does US tax code call a dreamer? I already said ACA, PA, PP, etc can hide behind their proper nouns. See: "At least a couple of the other ones can hide behind the fact that they are proper nouns."
I would say undocumented immigrant is just as loaded, if not more than illegal immigrant. I guess it boils down to whether you think people are breaking the law or not.
Illegal alien is a fact. Technicality wins in law. Undocumented immigrant is a truth. Truth wins everywhere else. Anyone in a country that is part of the US empire should be automatically have the right to apply as a dreamer and go through the vetting process. It's the least we can do to nations like Mexico, Canada, and our Central American and maritime holdings. Any candidate to promise that action wins.
I don’t know. If they are referenced in the tax code, most likely it says “DACA recipient”. They might not be named at all in the tax code, as (thanks to a Google search I found out) they are eligible for either a SSN or ITIN, which they would use for filing taxes.
Fake news, as far as I understand it. The Manhattan DA will not charge protestors who were arrested for minor infractions such as breaking curfew or unlawful assembly. People arrested for destruction of property or robbery will still be charged.
Thanks for the clarification What was the district attorney's justification for this though? I don't think they should choose whether or not to charge somebody based on "morals" which I heard was a justification. That's far too relative and I'd imagine the moral justification only goes one direction. I understand there has to be some discretion when you're dealing with these types of things but I'm skeptical of lopsided moral relativism.
Morals is the actual basis behind the law. This isn't lopsided. Imo it is setting a good precedent going forward. The cops are morality police. That is their job historically. Like clerics enforcing Sharia.
